Were you guys TRYING to kill this forum?

I joined in 2007 to gain/share knowledge about AR’s as well as other platforms related to war fighting. Found out real quick that oversized egos are fragile. Decided I’d set in the corner, keep my mouth shut and observe the chaos from a distance.
The real SME’s have an uphill battle because teaching stupid people is impossible. Mouth breathers tend to steal the spotlight and derail educational threads.
So SME’s move on.
We still have a lot of great people on here and I sincerely appreciate their efforts.
As Stickman said up thread “Fix this place while it still has a pulse”.

Maybe good guys like Yoni will come back.
Markm is not allowed to leave either.

New owners need to see the light before M4C flatlines.

If they really cared, they would have put a link to M4C on the SOLGW homepage.

Sadly with how few of us are left I see why they don’t now but they SHOULD have back then to try to drive traffic.

I find it amazing how things have changed in less than 5 years. I joined here back in 2012, always a lurker, never posted until I had to rejoin about 5 years ago because of email account issues. Started posting at that time because I hadn’t built an AR since 1985. That’s when I started posting & asking questions. But I really noticed the downswing in traffic. As easy as it is to rag on ARFCOM, I see no decrease in traffic over there. Not sure that’s saying much, but just saying. I’m a member, but have never posted.

I’ll be here arguing with myself if I have to.

Yeah. This site was goofey when I first joined. All about your training resume and what not. After some of the ego maniacs left it was a nice balance of participants and minimal nonsense.

Then we entered the “Use the Search Button” phase. Almost no one could start a thread if it had been covered before.

Now we have this effed up phase with a lot of members gone.

Well at-least you have a presence in the shooting related forums. Notice how all the most prolific GD users have zero presence on anything shooting related. Might as well change the “Site Sponsor” tag to “Boomer that no longer is interested in shooting”.

Yeah. That’s so annoying. This site has become 50% random current event nonsense.

I don’t get why there’s no choice for background color. Not one forum I go to has a black background, and no options to change it to white with back text.

Click the star looking symbol at the top of the screen. That will change the background to white with black text.

Ok, I’m gonna ask one more time. As I’ve said, I know nothing about running a website. I kind of understand that the old version of the forum was not supported anymore, ( whatever the f that means) but my question is; with all the tricks and this and that of internet wizardry, can someone explain why the forum can’t LOOK the way it used to? And function also. To me, it was damn near perfect. Supposedly, the current forum is much much better and modern. But it looks and functions like a rats ass. So, can someone splain to me? Or am I just a dumb old boomer?

A lot of it’s the code for the adware, which needs a high level techie to change or remove, even a forum admin can’t do it.

The color scheme, any Admin can change but us mods can’t. Believe me, I’m with you, Palmetto State Armory runs their forum on Discourse too and their user experience is FAR more eye friendly.

I’m not at all convinced that the old software was no longer supported.

Meh, it’s a bit better, but not great. Weapon Evolution has always had a good look. Too bad that site appears to be dying as well.

Probably a year ago. I think I commented about a barrel nut or something.

Asking Vicious.

About 10d ago, weren’t we discussing the retardation of adopting a battlerifle in the modern era? I guess with the Sig scandal the XM7 its looking more and more like some high ranking procurement officers are trying to getting their bread buttered after they retire.

Considering the current AR talk is about storage and PCCs with about 1 week inbetween replies, nothing peaks my interest enough to warrant a post. With arfcom producing maybe 20ish new topics per week where maybe 1 might peak my interest, you can see why this place is so dead.

Selecting the sun / moon in upper right does nothing on my windows laptop.

Nor on my Android tablet. And I won’t even TRY to use this site with the puny little screen on my Samsung G960. I read and monitor, but any typing or other action has to wait until I get the tablet to WiFi.

Re the PSA comparison, my point was that even confining the discussion to Discourse there are FAR better implementations of the boardware and frankly given this conservative, change-averse community I think Invision would have been a better move-to choice.

I suspect the deal with vBulletin is that both M4C and the other site I was involved with were on “legacy service plans” that Jelsoft was sunsetting and the owners were to cheap to pony up to move to the “shiny new” version at a more expensive service cost.

Does nothing on my Mac either.

It works on my iphone. Ok. It was worth a try.
