Because you nailed it, if that was your goal.
I warned that site engagement would go down if you changed the software and eliminated TapaTalk… I guess you knew better, huh?

Yep. I’ve participated in quite a few forums, and this is the least user friendly one of them all…by far.
If it were available on Fora, like numerous other Forums that left Tapatalk,I’d use that…but I"m not going to use a new app for one forum that’s on life support.
What a shame…
Who are theses folks anyway? Who bought the forum, did I miss the press release?
I’m trying so hard to be active here but its so damn frustrating and unintuitive it feels like a chore more then a past time /relaxing experience. Def spending more time on arf as a result. Bummer
I am not on arf, and have avoided it for years. There is almost no activity here now. I wish there was another alternative.
I came here this morning in hopes that something might have improved.
2 new threads since yesterday, with this thread being one of them.
The new look is terrible, the transition was horrible as many of us lost our old log in name.
Who ever is running this better get smart, very quickly. Issue an apology for messing up so badly, close it down and start over with something forum that is better.
Me I will give it till Friday and then if nothing changes, I will be gone . I need something that is informative vibrant to read over my morning coffee. This place is no longer that place for me.
I bailed on ARFCOM years ago, and now I’m ready to go back. I like firearms. I like AR15s. I do NOT like the changes to this forum. I have zero interest in learning the nuances and subtleties of this new software. Lack of pages is a PIA, dark back ground is horrid. Not seeing the various sections. I’m about done,
Fix this place while it still has a pulse. The comments saying you are going to announce the new owners, and then hiding it is a BS move. Not having an ongoing dialogue to fix the board so people will use it is a BS move.
I’m starting to think there are no new owners, and we are all just getting jerked around.
Yeah, this new format is going over worse than “New Coke”. Really got my fingers crossed for “M4C Classic”.
I don’t mind the dark background. The functional problems, I am hoping get fixed. Stuff like the text box suddenly moving off-screen. The mysterious owner thing needs fixed, too.
I went through all the color schemes but couldn’t find a light background with dark text for the main discussion areas, just drop down menus and the Reply box. However, there are multiple dark on dark schemes which seems odd. Curious color scheme names.
As someone who worked in ecommerce for over a decade, where site usability was literally a department of people who engaged in exhaustive A/B testing of new designs prior to sending them live, I can say that this new design is an epic fail. The adage in the ecommerce world was that the customer should never be more than 3 clicks away from finding what they want. Site navigation was key to this. This navigation is just horrible. I don’t think they could screw up a visual design any worse than this. This is painful to visit. It has fallen off my favorites list. And probably wont make a comeback. Such a shame.
Agreed… It’s horrible: really unacceptably illegible.
I’m out.
yeah. Due to some thing I had not been in for a few weeks (had been calling up main screen every few days or so but not moving around). Today I couldn’t get in except with mail link and the I find this unusable forum I don’t recognize…
Did you guys talk to my boss and make it so that I don’t waste time on here? It seems OK on a phone, but a tablet or PC, it is a train wreck.
I just hope someone archives the technical part so that we can reference it.
Is this software used anywhere else?
So, The Hide? Reddit for info? Reddit wasn’t as bad as I thought, especially for info.
Reddit is a shill marketer’s paradise due to the upvote/downvote system and overt allowance of bots/bot votes.
Maybe I haven’t used it right, but when I’ve experimented with it I’ve mostly found the signal/noise ratio to be incredibly poor. It seems like the less experience someone has with a product the more likely they are to recommend it or shit talk it.
They’re extremely prone to fickle hype, particularly with silencers, and certain manufacturers are very active there, but not necessarily in a good way.
I had problems logging on recently, but I finally got in.
This was the best AR15 related forum on the internet. There is (maybe “was”) a lot of firearms related technical information here that you cannot find anywhere else. It’s a shame what this site is now. I hope it changes back.
If a financial problem that forced the change to the new style site, I’m sure a group of users could come up with the money to switch back to the old format and continue it.
Joe Mamma
Reddit is still way better than Quora. And the problem I have with google searches is that sometime it returns things almost 20 years old, and it isn’t clear. I do have to say that the signal to noise ratio on the interwebs is getting pretty bad. At least with old BB format like here, there are threads to look up and and are easy to follow. X, LinkedIn, Facebook are all about ‘the now’ and are horrible for researching something
Can you point something like CHAT GPT to look only at a certian domain like M4Cs archives and ask it questions. With out getting all kinds of ARF and anti crap leaking in?
When you google (or other search engines) shit, you can filter results by time. You can also search specific sites by typing something like “weaponlight site:m4carbine.net“. You can also put phrases in quotes so that results not including the exact phrase get excluded.
And my understanding is that even if we raised $10M, the old format ain’t coming back.
I’m honestly just happy the forum still exists. It’ll take getting used to, but that’s part of life. I’ve already found a few features i like about the new setup, despite preference for the former.
