New assembly in the works...

It’s been awhile and I have pretty much sold or given all but the 6920 away…it’s my weakness and belief that every able-bodied man and woman should have at least one good rifle. Then I think…sheesh I otta have a back up AR just in case…of what? well that’s up to your threat assessment and imagination.

I ordered a BCM CHF std. Mid length
LPK I’m going with the Spikes Nickel Boron kit
Thinking a mil spec tube with a CTR stock
MOE handgurd and PG
Any receiver should do…I was looking at a YHM somewhere the other day…course for the money that Spikes at AIM will work great assuming they get more in.
And I’m thinking I’ll top it off with a Troy BUIS…an XPS Eotech and a Streamlight TLR1. have I missed anything? Oh I should get a Bolt carrier…yeah I’ll get a BCM carrier…already have a bolt lying around so I’ll match those up…and really lots of spare parts…funny how that happens. I did order that Spikes Tactical lower kit without the hammer/trigger as I already had the NiB parts so here we go. As always I appreciate your take on these things. not sure about the light and I know there are a lot of Aimpointers here so share your thoughts…thanks and pics to follow.:meeting:

Interesting trend here lately with that sort of setup…

… and mine: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=81100

Since that thread I’ve made a couple changes (refinements, really), but the overall rifle is about the same. No problems, just tuning it for me.

I’d recommend against the YHM lower, as the ones I’ve seen (and the one I bought for my A4 clone) have just a few things out-of-spec enough to be annoying later on. Trigger and hammer pin holes a tiny bit large, machining a little sloppy in some places, area just under where the charging handle comes out is high, making it drag on the underside of the CH, etc.

Every other aspect of it sounds almost exactly like what I plan to do (planning on running a Vltor A5 RE and buffer with the MOE stock though).

Thanks for the heads up on the receiver…that’s why I like to hang here…lots of great info and experience. Shame really, I always heard Yankee was a top notch company. I have built some on the Spikes and they turned out great and of course there are others. Anybody used that TRL1 Streamlight? I try to read and research these things before I buy but your opinions will help in the final decision and honestly, I have always been an iron sights type of guy…I can appreciate the need for a good light and electronic sight but I don’t sling a gun as a profession…

My bedside gun (a Sig P220R) wears a TLR-1. Bright, priced well, and solid. Also, back plates with tape switches are available from Streamlight as well, for use on rifles. I’ve actually been meaning to buy three more - two for my ARs, and another for my Glock.

All your missing is a BattleComp and a Geissele trigger

At the risk of sounding somewhat ignorant I am compelled to ask…what is a battlecomp? I graduated the college of KISS and figure if US don’t use it…it’s probably not needed. I also realize many things we could use just drive up the cost and aren’t neccessary…nice yeah but…like the Magpul stuff, I’m going with it cause it changes the flavor of the piece and I work with a bunch of Cops in a small town so we get together and show & tell…shoot and generally BS about this stuff…Thanks for the info on the light. For the price it seems a reasonable investment.

The BattleComp is the latest and greatest in things that screw onto the end of the barrel to make it louder. http://battlecomp.com/

In reality, it’s one of the best compromises in reducing muzzle flash and muzzle rise, but runs on the more expensive side of offerings before you get into full-on suppressor territory. The general consensus is that they work, and work well, but the ol’ A2 muzzle device can’t be beat for its $5 (or free) price tag.

Update: received the BCM BFH Mid-length upper, what a thing of beauty…is that…weird? also got the carrier. I ordered the Spikes lower from AIM as well as the balance of the build from AIM and Bravo co. so now I wait. I did end up going with the MOE stock as opposed to the CTR and I am gonna put a side sling mount under the gas block…ala Colt though I found RRA has it for 27.00 ppd and I have used them before…very stout swivel…such as these things are. Oh and I threw one of those 2-pt. victory slings Paul has on the sight for 35 bucks. Gotta hang it on something. I’ll try to stop babbling now but I am stoked. We have all seen 'em before but I will post a pic of the build less optics and lights next weekend if not sooner.
One thing is the buffer, the concensus seems to be a std. buffer is GTG but then I have read all the various weights will work. I got the H buffer coming and I have a standard laying around. Guess I’ll try each one for effect and go from there
