I can get over the fact that Bushmaster will release the rifle to the commercial market, even though I would have strongly preferred a Remington release.
I can overlook the fact that initial fielding will involve 1:9 barrels, since (a) this is intended to be a commercial product, and (b) it is probably only a matter of time before others become available.
I can live with the fact that it has taken three years to get the rifle ready for production, as we have to keep in mind that the Masada was a functional prototype when it was first introduced to us.
I can make peace with the fact that the ACR couldn’t reach us for $1,500, and while I know where we got that figure, I always felt something like $2,200 was going to be more realistic. Still, assuming early returns are accurate, $500 more than my worst-case estimate (for the entry-grade rifle) is admittedly a bit hard to bear.
From where I stand, it would seem to come down to this …
Would a Remington 1:7 enhanced ACR have warranted a $2,700 price of entry? Perhaps not, but most of us would eventually have been happy to ante up, regardless.
Is a Bushmaster 1:9 basic ACR going to do well at the same price point? I think they will have some nice initial successes to show for their effort, but barring a course correction or two, I’m having a hard time seeing the long term viability of the current product once the collectors and enthusiasts have sated their lusts.
… and I hope I am proven wrong, because Magpul’s Masada deserves a better reception than it is likely to be given in Bushmaster ACR trim this week.
the barrels are cold hammer forged, since when did bushmaster have cold hammer forge barrels so they can just lay around? 95% of the civilian market isn’t going to care about shooting 75gr+ The rest can buy a remmy barrel.
Now that the enhanced isnt coming out until May, I’m just gonna wait to see how the MSRP plays out in street price. Most of bushmasters street price is 25% of their MSRP. I’m thinking of getting on the DSG wait list, if I dont like the price by May I can always cancel.
I don’t know what it is. I really didn’t have that much ‘invested’ in the rifle. I think the issue is that there is nothing here for anyone. Heavy, technically incompetent, and expensive. The old joke is fast, good, cheap; pick two. We get zero. One attribute would have been enough to keep the ‘hate’ down and it just confirms the unease with having Bushmaster involved.
Times are tough out there, all around, and I think seeing someone take a sure thing and FUBAR it this way is offensive to people.
I’m waiting for the details on this “special coating” to drop.
I guess we should shut our pie holes till we get some in people hands and maybe even shoot some rounds.

I think this pretty much sums up my thoughts on how Bushmaster has handled the situation:
Someone needs to call Remington and ask if there will be non select fire “police” versions available. My gut tells me that there will be, and that they’ll be available to us in the same sense that the 870P and 700P are.
I’m having flashbacks, this Bushmaster ACR situation reminds me a lot of what Sig pulled back in '07.“Here, here is the rifle you have been dreaming of US consumers…weeeeellll sort of”. :rolleyes:
If I was going to drop that much coin for a bullet hose I’d buy a KAC and sleep soundly at night.
And FN is known for making quality guns for decades.
BM is known for making crap guns for decades. Until they can make a quality product they don’t have the ‘creds’ to wanting 2700 for a basic ACR that is most likely a watered down military version anyways.
They are both overpriced…but at least with the SCAR you have a quality name behind it. I knew in my gut the ACR was fucked when it came out BM was going to be producing it. Also when there were going to be 2 versions. Commercial and mil/le with two different names. They pulled a “Chey-Tac” building one quality gun for mil/le and a watered down “crappier” version for civilians. I don’t play that game especially not for that price.
hard to believe the dealer price on the SCAR is 2216. Buds sells them for under $2250. Is the dealer price already marked up over I guess factory price so the dealer gets some profit?
what they should’ve done is make the enhanced price lower than the SCARs if they wanted to compete with it. Lowballing the SCAR shouldve been the primary pricing strat. I’m still waiting but eh not as exciting anymore

When Magpul announced that BM was going to handle manufacturing I had a bad feeling this was going to be the result. Higher price and under-whelming spec sheet. BM is not known for a high quality end product and at this price point I don’t think they’ll deliver the quality(Colt,LMT,Noveske,FN etc.). Someone stated earlier in the thread that SCAR sales were pretty flat. I believe sales will increase after this news. I believe people were holding out for the ACR release to make their decision. I finally made mine last week, this news only confirms my suspicions. Great idea, poor execution.
