WTF ammo gods?

So I am simply wondering…

5.56 in 193 or 855 simply is scarce right now from reputable manufacturers. IMI and PRVI are my preffered choices. I’d hate to pay $350 for 1k 855 but I would. Problem is it’s not available at even that price. Almost everyone is backordered indefinately. SSA has 1k of LC M855 on sale and in stock for $499. Are you serious? I’d rather practice with a sling shot.

The point is this…are we really there? I mean could it possibly go higher!!! I can’t imagine buying at these prices but my garsh…what if it does go higher???

Dumbfounded and unsure?

After last night prices will keep rising, and product will continue to be hard to come by. What we use to think was outrageous will become what we think of as good prices.

$179/500 at Glen’s.

thanks for the info

There are several threads already on the topic. Like this one: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=116020

There is no shortage. Shelves are well stocked in most places, including with mil types from Fed, Winchester, and import. Prices are relatively stable. You might not be seeing what you want at the price you want, or seeing it at a preferred vendor, but no one is going without ammo.

SGAmmo has some stuff…prices are ‘high’ but plenty in stock

Please explain how prices are high. SGAmmo has good prices and shipping.

I just bought some 855 for about .40/per round. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Ammoengine says that Wideners has Fed AE 55gr, $175/500. Thats 0.35/round. Not the greatest but certainly not $499/1000.

This is some of the best TRUE M193 I have been able to find.

S&B/CBC will soon release a FMJ 62gr 5.56 (non-steel core). This will be a much better option than M855.

Shoot! Forgot about that. Nate and I were just discussing this stuff. I paid about the same for xm193. Bummer.

Walk into a Cabelas. There is NO SHORTAGE of ammo that I can see.

They aren’t giving it away, but there’s PLENTY of it around.

This is what I figured, a spike in sales, but nothing stupid. Last election people pre stocked way more. Grant sold all his pmag and started stocking lancers. People are over reacting in a very unbecoming way.

The problem is that people aren’t checking facts before they repeat what they hear on the net or at the LGS. They’re also over-extrapolating a local lack of their favorite brand or price point. Close the laptop, turn off the smart phone, and go shopping. It’s there.

Walked out of my LGS with several hundred rounds of exactly what I wanted at the price I paid last month and the month before. The lead time from my ATK supplier is the ship time from the factory for most skus. Were I desperate, every Cabelas I’ve been to in the last two months had end-caps overloaded with Herters .223 and 7.62x39. $4.99/20, or something near thereto.

Go shopping. Go shooting.

Manufactures took notice during the last election and they have ALL ramped up production. IMHO this is why there is still ammo on the shelves.

Now, retailers price hiking what’s available is another matter altogether.

For the moment yes, but SGAmmo is out of most everything bulk except for higher priced stuff. And the owner said on TOS his Federal/ATK supplier already put up a 10% increase the day after the election.

I’d say most bulk ammo web stores will be selling out shortly and/or increasing prices. Many of my go to sites already are running short or selling at prices I’m not willing to pay, but I’ve got a pretty good reserve going right now so I should be okay until demand/supply brings the prices back down.

But combined with the post election day frenzy along with a lack of cheap steel case prior to the election (for several months it has been hard to get Russian animal brands except for Tula) I’d say we will see a shortage for a while with higher prices until the situation resolves itself. Not like the 2008 time frame I would assume since we aren’t looking at suppliers having to meet the .mil training for and fighting on two fronts combined with public demand.

But one thing is certain, I do not see prices ever falling back to 2007 levels at all and maybe not even to 2011 prices either. Higher prices will probably be the norm for a while. I honestly don’t see M193 spec ever falling back below $300 a case like it was some months ago.

I ordered M855 PRVI from aimsurplus last fall for $330 shipped / 1k.

I haven’t seen any price anywhere near that and haven’t seen much stock anywhere. I don’t have a cabelas or any of the like…shouldn’t need to…with this internet gizzmo.

I’m not sure what the confusion is…

I stated that stocks seem low and prices seem high…seems pretty straight forward. If your opinion is that prices are not too high, then your expectations are simply different than mine. If you feel that plenty of the specified ammo is available, then I’d ask for your helpful/productive side to point in the direction.

Thanks
