In an AR15 platform, is there advantage in using a Sprinco Buffer Spring?
Softens recoil, slows cyclic rate and better feeding when carbine is dry/dirty. Just don’t over do it on midlength and rifle length gas guns (on these an H buffer and Sprinco) spring is plenty. Carbine gas guns a H2 and Sprinco spring with 5.56mm NATO ammo run really well but can be too much when using some weak .223Rem ammo.
so its a bad idea to use a blue spring on 14.5 middy with H buffer?
depends on the gun. BCMs are optimized for 5.56. A lot of people have issued using weak 223(such as wolf), especially in the cold since the gun is fine tuned for 5.56. If your gun is overgassed, it may be fine.
I havnt used one, but I hear great things about them in carbines. The extra inertia really makes relability a non issue(granted its a good gun) As the above poster said, When the gun is really dirty, the extra momentum helps ensure the bolt gets seated fully. It also reduces some effects of an overgassed gun such as potential extractor issues(especially with guns with the blue extractor insert).
Id be wary of installing one on a 14.5" middy, especially if its been reliable so far. Ussually any problems with them are from under gassing, not over gassing.
I have had 2 Fail to fully go in to battery in 1000 rds with bcm middy bcm bolt bcm springand h buffer, but I think it might have been caused by the mag (very old usgi with green follower) + crap ammo (WPA 55gr).
I wouldn’t use a Sprinco spring and a H buffer in a 14.5" midlength. I would use a H buffer and standard rate CAR buffer spring. I use a 3.8oz A5 buffer and standard A2 buffer spring with mine.
understood, what about with a 10.5 mrp upper
Right. The other main thing is longevity. Standard SS buffer spring only have a life of about 3K. The SpringCo Springs have at least a 10K round count if not more.

I think SpringCo makes a white (or less powerful) spring that you can use in Middy’s.

Assuming no suppressor is being used, blue spring and an H2 buffer.

I’ve been using an H2 buffer and Sprinco blue spring with my BCM 14.5 middy. M855, M193, and PMC Bronze (.223) have all cycled fine and locked the bolt back on an empty mag. Tulammo will not lock the bolt back but it will cycle fine. This rifle is brand spanking new though, I only have 400 rounds through it. A standard or H buffer would probably be better once the rifle starts to get a little dirty inside. I will be upping the round count significantly here soon without much cleaning so we will see how it goes.
I’m using a Sprinco white, which is suppose to have the same tension as a standard CAR, but with the long life of the Sprinco springs.
The spring was slightly longer and slightly stiffer than a standard CAR from Stag/CMT.
I’m going to doo doo in this sprinco Mofest… sorry guys ![]()
I don’t see ANY reason to deviate from USGI, COLT, Stainless steel, Mil spec springs on a fighting gun.
Rotate em out every 5k and you’ll never have a problem. I really don’t like aftermarket springs anywhere near my guns.

Actually springco springs and other high quality chrome silicon springs have more consistent rates than your average USGI spring.

Relative to the other action springs, the Sprinco Blue action spring was very consistent overall, with a total cycle time standard deviation of .55 for M855 and 3.03 with XM193. The Brownells Chrome Silicon spring was not far behind, with M855 and XM193 standard deviations of 1.87 and 3.81, respectively. The Brownells AR-15/M4 recoil spring could not be considered as consistent, with standard deviations of 5.59 and 12.87.
Further testing will be conducted.
According to 87GN’s test.
My Springco (blue) spring showed very little decrease in length after 5K rounds of suppressed fire with an H3 buffer.
I recommend them often.
Here is the easiest way to think about it. CS extractor and buffer springs are for people that cannot remember to do their PM’s (like me).

What would be the suggested Springco set-up be for a Bushy 14.5" Carbine gas system and a steady diet of Wolf training ammo. I would be mixing in M193 as funds permit but not on a regular basis so I would prefer 100% function with the Wolf.
I was thinking a white spring and standard H-Buffer.
Please school me too. I have a BCM 16" middy with the H buffer and standard spring, BCM BCG. What do I need to get to upgrade?
I wouldn’t worry about upgrading until you’ve worn out your buffer spring.
BM AR’s are really over gassed. So I would go with an H2 or H3 with a Blue spring.
