What advantages to heavier buffer springs like Sprinco provide?

I have a blue with an H buffer in my 16 LMT carbine, the best investment I think I’ve made besides my Geisselle SD3G. When I had my 16" BCM midlength I ran a white with an H2. I’d opt for a stronger spring and lighter buffer.

If you have more than 1 buffer on hand C, H, H1, H2 I’d start with a Blue and go from there unless you have a 14.5 middy. With that I’d start with a white spring.

I opted for a Blue Springco Spring and H2 Buffer in my over-gassed M&P thanks to some advice from Grant. Awesome investment :smiley:

So if the white is stock, and red extra power, where does blue fit in?

Between red and white?

Springco’s strength rating from least to greatest (I actually own one of each):

White - std power (when mil spec spring is new & unfired)

Blue - White + ~3 coils (noticeably stronger)

Red - More coils than the Blue (and VERY strong…good for 6.8, 7.62x39, etc.)

Green is the the Vltor A5 and I can’t comment on it since I don’t own one.

I highly recommend springco springs without caveat.

I have, personally, settled on the Tubbs Flatwire CS spring and H2 buffer for my BCM 14.5" middy. Felt recoil on Federal XM193 is only SLIGHTLY higher than when using an H3, but there is essentially no muzzle-dip when the BCG returns to battery…and the H3 caused my muzzle to dip off-target. I think 87GN (Andrew at vuurwapenblog) settled on this setup as well.

Either way, the merits of using a Chrome Silicon spring are evident and are worth the price of admission, IMHO. If you don’t feel like tinkering, get a White springco spring and an H buffer and be done with it. This will run in any setup aside from MAYBE an SR15 on .223 ammo (though I haven’t tried it in one).

@Grant - I forget my PM’s too…I get a warm fuzzy from the extra insurance. It’s the same reason I put good synthetic oil and a top-quality filter in my wife’s car. So that when she forgets to read the sticker on the windshield and goes several hundred miles over her oil change interval, I’m not losing my fuggin’ mind at her. It’s a marriage saver. :wink:

Im running the Sprinco RED spring, and the Spikes Tungsten buffer whose name I cant recall right now, both seem to have a lot hate on here and Im sure I dont know what Im doing according to some here,
but its been 100% reliable so far in about 600 or so rounds, even 12 rounds of a 40gr. reload fed/functioned perfectly.
But dont listen to me, everyone else is right.:smile:

No hate for the buffer. Just some hate for bolt-bounce, which the buffer allows. That’s all.

I can say that, at the very least, it’s better than a carbine buffer…but even an H buffer stops all bolt bounce.

The ST-T2 runs between an H and an H2 in weight (typically around 4.1oz, with an H being ~3.7oz and an H2 being ~4.6/7oz).

Agreed on the LWRCi trash. What a joke that turned out to be.

For the relatively small amount they cost I find it to be a valuable “upgrade”: being significantly more powerful it seats the bcg VERY assertively, with all it’s advantages.
My rifles all use blue springs and and once gotten used to that, I find that lacking from regular springs - something which usually results in having to use the FA.
Using blue springs you’ll forget having one.
Try it, then you’ll know what i mean, and if you don’t like it I’ll gladly take it off your hands…:slight_smile:

I’m running a 16" BCM Middy and from time to time, I experience a malfunction while shooting just about any .223

Already tried both H and standard buffers and neither seems to make much of a difference, although I’m typically running an H buffer w/ standard mil-spec spring.

I was thinking about swapping my GI spring to a Springco, but I’m unsure of what would be the best combination of buffer/buffer spring for maximum reliability with all types of ammo?

What malfunction(s)? Consistently the same type or various? What 223 falls under the ‘just about any’ you’ve tried? Does XM193/855 cycle reliably? I’m assuming you also have a BCM carrier and bolt?

I wouldn’t go swapping out anything til you’ve isolated the root cause of what’s causing your malfunctions. My guess is that some of the weaker 223 (depending on what you’ve sampled) isn’t hot enough to cycle the rifle properly. Changing to anything heavier, buffer or spring, will likely exacerbate the issue.

I for one prefer the benefits provided by middys, heavier buffers, etc. and have just accepted that Tula, PMC, etc. are a no-go for my setup.

Somebody revived this old thread so here is my question. IGunz picked me up a green and blue sprinco. My 11.5 and 12.5 suppressed run H2 and H3 buffers.

What’s the diff in blue and green? Wouldn’t these little honeys be fine in my SBR’s. They have sat in my closet for about a year. and these guns should be around 3k rounds. Both are cycling fine, with and without can.

lwrc don’t make shit guns. They just have shitty customer service and company polices.

Does anyone know if the Green springs are the same spring rate as the Vltor A5 springs? Or are they stronger? I am currently using the Vltor A5 system with the A5H4 buffer (I added a tungsten buffer weight to the standard A5 buffer) and am interested in increasing the spring strength and reducing the reciprocating mass.

I own the Green spring and it is stronger than the std Vltor spring.

In order of spring strength, least to greatest (to my mk1mod0 finger):
Vltor A5 spring->Brownells CS Rifle Spring->Colt Rifle Spring (from SAW)->Springco Green Spring.

The difference between the Vltor and the Brownells is slight, though the Brownells spring cycles so much smoother inside the Vltor A5 tube (Vltor spring feels like a fork over a cheese grater). The Colt Spring is noticeably stronger than the Brownells in an A-B comparison and also cycles very smoothly. The Springco Green is noticeably stronger than the Colt without an A-B and cycles smoothly as well.

I have 2 Vltor A5 equipped lowers.

The first is on a M&P15 carbine, A5H4 and standard A5 spring. I plan on dropping the Springco Green in this one and possibly leaving the A5H4 as this is my over-gassed training gun with the highest round count. This gun mostly shoots crappy .223 ammo like Wolf, Bear, and PMC.

The second is for a BCM BFH midlenth, A5H4 and standard A5 spring. The plan is to put the Springco Green in this one and change the buffer back to the A5H3…maybe…depends on how the gun runs with the Green spring.
