Were you guys TRYING to kill this forum?

I ran the following test question through a few AIs:

What does markm at m4cabine.net think about LWRC?

Claude 3.5 gave a useless answer:

Based on the search results, there isn’t any specific information about markm’s opinion on LWRC rifles. However, the search results do provide some general insights about LWRC from the m4carbine.net community:

  1. There are mixed opinions about LWRC rifles on the forum. Some members consider them to be great rifles, while others have criticisms.

  2. One of the main complaints about LWRC rifles is their weight. The combination of a heavy barrel, piston system, and quad rail contributes to a heavier front end.

  3. Despite some criticisms, there are positive experiences reported. A forum member mentioned a contractor and trainer who uses LWRC piston guns exclusively both in the US and overseas, and strongly recommends them.

  4. There seems to be ongoing discussion and debate about the merits of LWRC rifles, indicating that opinions vary among forum members.

It’s worth noting that markm is mentioned in one of the search results, but not in relation to LWRC. The reference to markm is about gratitude for his “enlightenment” regarding a Colt 6920 rifle.

To get markm’s specific thoughts on LWRC, you would need to search for his posts directly on the m4carbine.net forum or ask him directly if he’s still an active member.

However, ChatGPT4o nailed it:

Markm, a member of the m4carbine.net community, has expressed a critical view of
LWRC rifles. He has described LWRC as “overpriced garbage” and has voiced strong
opinions against the brand, suggesting that he does not recommend them.

FWIW, I asked Claude and ChatGPT which AR and sidearm would m4c tell me to get. Both answers were pretty good and similar, except ChatGPT said Colt 6920 while Claude went with BCM. Both agreed on G19.5.

(I wonder what new “list” I’m on after asking those questions.)

Anyway, back on topic: I’m getting used to the new m4c forum UI after some time figuring it out. The only thing still bugging me is the dark theme, but I know I can fix that with a browser extension like Stylus where I can rewrite the CSS styling. If I get bored.

On my phone it’s not bad. And I guess that’s the game nowadays.

The ‘upgrade’ really isn’t.

I’ve been continuing to peruse the site pretty regularly since the update. After giving it some time I don’t particularly care for it. I don’t like the lack of pages. It also seems I always have some sort of notification of something new, but when I click on it, there is nothing that is easily identified as new on the page it takes me to. I don’t really have any trouble navigating the site, but I preferred the old layout. I feel like traffic is way down since the change, which is disappointing. It felt like this forum was already seeing a decline in traffic, and I’m afraid the new layout may be the nail in the coffin.

What was the issue with it before? That it worked?
I dont go to the hide anymore, this was the only forum I use anymore. Guess I’ll go back to the hide or maybe try TOS.

The improvement wasn’t. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs to go back to marketing school. It is not as user friendly as the previous version.

Software was no longer supported is my understanding.

I’ve been meaning to make some more substantive posts involving shooting/guns. We can all improve traffic in that way. Those of us that remain, at least.

ndmiller, I see you’re the only one on M4C to receive a so-called “Badge granted upon successful completion of the interactive new user tutorial.”

Curious where one can find the “interactive new user tutorial” ?

Edit add---------------------

Admin and/or Moderators. I tried the Forum FAQ section. This is what displays.

I was clicking around and found it a bot based tutorial of reply, copy, paste, quote silliness. Never thought anything about it.

Wildcard600 just got it 2 hours ago, I’ll search a bit to find it if.

Granted 2 hours

Discobot started a chat with me and I just continued it until certified.

ndmiller,

Thanks for replying.

Oh, ok. I thought it might be more about how to use the Forum. I wouldn’t mind spending a few minutes learning how to better use this place. The lack of resources, including no support from Admin in these sections seems odd.

Hey, I just earned an Enthusiast badge… sigh.

It seems to need a mercy killing.

What can be done to improve (save) this site? This site format is awful compared to my other forums. Can the new owners not see this?

The “Owners” haven’t replied or made themselves known, so I can only assume one or more of the following.

They either bought the site to kill it on purpose or they don’t care about what happens here or maybe something happened and they can’t access the site like other users have reported.

Continuing the discussion from Were you guys TRYING to kill this forum?:

Bothered figuring out signing in to say this place was on a decline. It mirrored the end of the gwot and the ar development that went with it. This forums down turn mirrored the industries.

This charge and apparent? sale of the site is the final mail in the coffin.

The idea someone wants to kill this site seems right on. But why bother doing it this way. Why not just turn it off and poof it gone?

Anyways I’m done here. Other than I do want to know the story of why this is happening.

Wow getting this post to post is a joke so far I can’t do it

For some reason I was sent a message from ‘discobot’ telling me I’ve been “promoted up another trust level” ??

Anyway… Included with the promotion are links to learn how to use parts of the forum.

Yeah the new format sucks and i had to create a new account but above all of that its just not a friendly place to post. You have a dozen or 2 posters here that act like its their personal site. Kind of a strange way to run a website.
