I had considered this, and you know I’m well aware of the bungling idiocy of GHWB.
While he certainly set the table, his son was more destructive to America because while GHWB created vulnerabilities and liabilities, GWB took that weakness and made it into the reality in the worst, most dangerous, and damaging way.
Also, you forgot to consider Katrina, which as an (honorary) New Orleanian was big one for me. The whole world watched us like “WOW!” as thousands suffered and died while the government did absolutely nothing.
Ya know what. Mississippi took that one in the teeth too, why didn’t it burn? Miami is hardly the most urban friendly environment but when it took a Cat 4 hit NOBODY from the Fed showed up to do ANYTHING for a lot longer than a week and it didn’t turn into Detroit. Why is that?
What was that cat’s name? Naglin or something (mayor of NOLA)? And wasn’t he (the biggest mouthpiece against Bush) convicted of corruption? Some of it in the aftermath of Katrina? Yeah. I think that is Kev’s hero in chief.
Note to Kev: in natural disasters, shit happens and people die. I suppose you blame Pompeii on Caesar too?
How much blame do you ascribe to the local govt or to individuals not heeding the warning to gtfo our even to prepare?
Kev is still snap chatting with Kanye about how Bush steered that hurricane toward New Orleans because of how much he hates black people… (SMH)
It’s been said and can be repeated, local and state government SH!T THE BED on that one, then the Fed came in and eff’d up as well. Nobody should hold their head high after that FUBAR situation.
Yeah, that’s cool and all to keep it gangsta-gangsta, rely-on-no-man.
If you’re really that dude, I hope your local fire department knows. Walk the walk, right?
Is your granny that way too?
Mississippi???
I’m talking about one of America’s oldest and greatest cities… and also it’s most critical and valuable piece of infrastructure inch-for-inch… and you’re coming back about trees and deer?
(plus, I guess, a few casinos on the beach?)
Get serious.
Southern Mississippi was “rebuilt” as soon as they rolled in the new FEMA trailers to replace the old trailers.
Yes. And also we have a federal agency tasked with providing relief when such things happen. We pay them $13B per year to help out when things go bad on a catastrophic level.
I understand that the well-rehearsed and memorized talking points within party-owned-minds are that Hurricane Katrina exceeded the available resources of the city (no shit)… and that is the fault of the City of New Orleans… and that, I guess somehow there is a partisan spin to this too (Yay Republicans? Heck of a job Brownie?)???
Walking things back on topic, if a natural disaster on the scale of Katrina happens in the next 60 days… and Obama waits 4 days before flying over the devastation… and the delayed, incompetent, and inadequate response of his administration results in 1,000 preventable deaths…
Then he still loses to George W. Bush by 1 day and 69 American lives in the contest for “Worst President Ever” in the “Response to Natural Disaster Category.”
And I defend his right to say it. Doesn’t mean I agree or that he’s right.
The smug self-assuredness takes away when he may have a point.
Instead of being a good debater, he comes across as a jerk. That brings out the others to attack/defend instead of point/counterpoint.
And then he has to bring my g-ma into it?
And actually, that’s his knee jerk without knowing anything about me. I get his point, but a very insulting way to make it. This is him being a troll. Nothing more and doesn’t add to this forum.
Fwiw, my grandmother passed decades ago. My grandfather was the fire chief.
Spare me the we didn’t build it argument.
Hey, don’t disrespect Mississippi…coastal towns lost some historical, beautiful buildings all over the coast. Waveland lost every building from what I remember, and Gulfport and Bilouxi took some massive hits that exceeded the devastation of the legendary Camile.
NO question that Bush’s FEMA truly dropped the ball responding to Katrina, I will not argue that. But as far as NO goes, you cannot dismiss the years of corruption by City and State officials who squandered funding meant for levy and canal infrastructure that ended up lining the Mayor’s pockets. Plenty of blame to go around at all levels.
