You’re right Rob. Sorry to pull the thread off topic.
Back on topic, it is exciting to see more manufacturers responding positively. Hopefully they will all end up participating and providing the requested information.
LOL, morons (specifically the owner GB). They will fill a chart with info that is meaningless and then allow manufacturer’s PR departments to put in false/inaccurate/manipulated info. There will also be ZERO checks on what the “paying sponsor’s” post in it as no one there knows anything of technical value.
I also find it funny that they STILL think that this forum owns Rob’s chart. The term “Bat chit crazy” comes to mind. :jester:
What is also facinating is that GB believes that the TDP is somehow biased. It is a simple document and a manufacturer either says yes or no to it. It has no agenda. You either follow it or you do not.
Edited to add It appears that Goat Boy edited his comments. Hmm wonder why.
I am interested in how they stack up to the rest. They are local to me and I purchased a complete lower a few months back and asked the sales guy where their LPK’s came from. Having read the Vuurwapen review I was curious what I would hear for the sales guy. He responded with “the same guy that makes the stuff for Colt”, and that they no longer use any DD stuff. So now I wonder from who they do get their stuff from.
Either way it’s great that a chart like this exsists. I by no means am lazy, but work and other things keep me far too busy to do any of this type of research for myself so I applaud Rob for taking time to do this.
My favorite quote over there is “The main reason for this being pushed now is the community wanting something that is actually ACCURATE and useful. Having strong ties to companies, as well as a tool set for them, we expect greater participation.”
I guess that can be translated as A) we think the current chart is inaccurate or more likely B) the data in the old chart reflected poorly on our corporate sponsors and afflicted a large portion of our member base with a case of butt hurt so we want to make our own loaded with more favorable data.
So instead of reacting to the shot fired across their bow by stepping up to the plate to make higher quality products that they might be proud to have publicly dissected on a chart, they instead decide to try to control the message. Nice.
I just read that thread so far…So a “chart” made by a site loaded with sponsors (and depending upon internet posts for factual input) isn’t akin to a gun rag refusing to bash or contradict their paid advertisers??
What will be interesting is if they have interactions with their forum sponsors and encourage them NOT to participate in other efforts such as mine.
I think I’m going to publish with what I have shortly. I was hoping to have the new, improved, Explanation of Features completed to go with it but for the time being I’ll just keep the original and people can fill in the blanks. The new one delves into steel types, explanations of what steels have what properties, why they are good for certain applications, etc. but for now I feel like I need to have a push to get the information I do have out there.
