Has anyone taken a look at Silencerco’s new Saker 5.56 suppressor. It has some really nice features. I’m thinking of making this my next can purchase, but want to know if anyone had any info. here is a link to the saker on Silencerco’s website.
Currently vaporware.
They have been working on it for years. Showed prototype at SHOT in Jan. Said it would be shipping in May or so. Now they are saying about August for the very first ones, but unless you put your order in around Jan, don’t expect to get one until the 2nd or more likely 3rd batch. It may be possible to find a local dealer with one, but the big internet dealers almost certainly have all of theirs sold.
Fingerbanged it at the Silencers are Legal Shoot in Dallas during the latter part of April. It definitely has some nice features and the guys at Silencerco definitely have their ears to the ground as to what the end users in the industry desire.
Based on side by side comparisons to the KAC QDSS-NT4 and the AAC M4-2000, all on similarly outfitted rifles, I have the following observations. Given, my experience with it was only limited to a 15-20 minute shooting session.
-
Heavier than the M42k, lighter than the NT4. This is no surprise, as the M42k is one of the lighter cans on the market and the NT4 is one of the heavier ones.
-
Just slightly louder than the M42k and the NT4. Disclaimer: this is just my opinion. I don’t have an acoustic room or boom mics or any dB charting software. But my buddies also agreed.
-
If I recall correctly, pricing was somewhere in the $1200 range. More expensive than the M42k, less expensive than the NT4. But with the features you get (your choice of QD attach mechanism, your choice of end cap), not a bad deal at all.
-
Very well built. Just solid.

Not that this matters to those looking for superior products, but the guys at Silencerco are really great people. They had no qualms with my messing around with their products, or comparing/contrasting other products. Confidence in your product, as well as willingness to listen to input and potential criticism, are hallmarks of a great company.
Hope this helps. Got some pics somewhere, I’ll see if I can dig them up.

Crappy cell phone pics. Forgot to bring a camera with me.
I’m guessing that’s the prototype? The updated pics on their website show a breacher type compensator at end of can. I second that their CS is outstanding; I’ve read nothing but great reviews. This is one of the reasons I choose the osprey9 for my first can.
Here is a great vid on the can. explained
As I stated in my previous post, with the price of the can you get your choice of end cap. You could get the standard cap, a stand-off device end, and I believe a flash-hider type end similar to the new KAC QDC can. Those are all of the end caps I could remember.
Yep, modular.
Flash hider and flush are all I’ve ever been able to think of. I suppose the long fabled rebar cutter could eventually come out, but doubt it would be a good idea.
Cool idea I guess, but a little iffy on the practical side.
Also as per someone saying it’s more than the M42k, the Saker comes with a mount. AAC cans do not. Street price I would expect to be about the same. IF it ever comes out. Same goes for AAC’s SR5 vaporware.
I didnt like the length, its just over 7" if I recall correctly.
The mounting system sounds great, if it locks up tight
As for the caps at the end the choices I’m aware of them working on are the flat one that’s standard, a flash hider that features their new pingless design, and there was talk of one with standard thread mounts for putting your own device on the end.
Price if I recall correctly is $900 for just the silencer without any attachment system. $300 for the 51 tooth or their new mounting system, and I want to say $150 for the thread on mount system.
The advantage I can foresee is that when the new whiz bang mounting system is released 2-10 years from now they could in theory make an attachment system to put it onto the new mount without having to buy a new silencer.
I think it’s a great idea and I’d love to try one.
The length is a bit on the long side. I wonder if that’s due to the design of the can internals or a function of the removable adapter section.
Any more recent word on the Saker? Have they started shipping?
would be interesting to see one ran with a BattleComp front end…
very informative video… I was surprised to see the difference in tuning fork resonance with the flash hiders… great innovation if I may say so
I’ve been keeping an eye on the Saker for a while now, and have seen a couple good videos illustrating its features, but I had not seen the video linked in this thread. I continue to be more impressed with every demonstration I see of the Saker. Even ignoring the fact that the mounts are modular, the mechanism for securing it to the flash hider is an impressive and elegant piece of engineering, clearly thinking way ahead of any of the competing designers out there. The replaceable front end cap is another great feature, as it can be replaced without any effect on serial-numbered components, and without sending the can back to the manufacturer. The geometry of the baffle stack is such that a strike is likely to be on that end cap, so you have an easy remedy in that event.
I’m waiting for the 7.62 Saker, which Silencerco said is currently in development.
Anyone taken the Saker out for a spin yet?
Played with one in the store. Really hard to give an opinion though. I didn’t quite master the attacment method in 30 seconds.
I’ve got one in transfer to me now. I’m a partner in the SOT that has it so I’ll try to take it out soon. I’m very impressed with the MAAD mounting system.
Below is a pic of it. My patent pending modular gas block is show underneath the DDMK18 rail.

Silencerco/SWR also graciously ‘donated’ a Specwar 556 to me for testing as well. Actually they have some samples of my gas block they are running as well.
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts comparing the two once you get them both. Personally I’m leaning specwar but they both seem like great cans.
I’m shooting mine for the first time tomorrow. I just got the flash hider installed on my Colt the other day. The MAAD mount is absolutely rock solid, and despite its complexity, it’s one of the easiest cans to mount, one-handed no problem. There’s a sale at Silencershop right now, they’re going for about 850 with the Trifecta mount and FH.
BTW the Saker a nearly-identical baffle stack to the Specwar, with the exception of the blast baffle. The baffle design and material is exactly the same for the rest of the baffles. Silencerco seems to be using that general baffle design for most of their products now. Even the Octane uses a variation of it.
Interesting…just watched a few vids on it and see that it is the same except for the blast baffles. However it meters 3dB lower than the saker if that matters to anyone. Being on a 5.56 you likely won’t be able to hear the difference.
