Sig M400?

Looks interesting and the price tag should be competitive.

While it is a big snore, that doesn’t mean it wont offer competitive performance.

Guess we will see.

Most of my handguns are Sig, including a Mosquito. I have never had a failure of any kind with any of them, except when the Mosquito gets over 250 rounds without cleaning. A ten-second wipe of the feed ramp and under the extractor hook gets ir to run another 250. All four of my spare mags were $25 each at Academy.

Every company has made bad decisions. The .45GAP, Colt Series 80, Remington 742, Winchester 1911SL, and others come to mind. I think Sig’s in a slump with the P250, and will recover. This AR may be a good sign of that, especially with its unique features. Hopefully they’ll come out with a separate lower…

Well said ^

Indeed. Yeah the 250 (and P290 imo) was a bump in the road, but the saving of the SP2022 and the new P224 in the works are going to be winners

I think i’m more excited about the lower than the gun itself, i love the ambi features and QD socket.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but my local store got this in for $899.99 which beats a lot of the online dealers I have seen. It doesn’t look like it is anything special, but it has the 1x7 barrel I have been looking for, feels solid, has good staking where it is needed and I am very impressed with the ambi QD sling attachments on the lower. For what it would cost me for a colt I could get this thing a nice rail setup and some mags and be good to go. I am just leery of being a sig test rat when it comes to this rifle as I can’t seem to find very many first hand reviews of it.

Looks nice but Ive owned three recent sig products and had problems with all of them, I hope they did some r&d before they put this one out!

I started using Sig handguns in 1997 when I started with the Department of Interior, and have been using them ever since. I also do armory work on dozens of agency Sigs every year, and handle procurement of new Sig pistols every 2-3 years. So, I’ve looked over and worked on somewhere around a thousand Sig pistols of varying years of manufacture and round counts.

There is no doubt in my mind that the quality of Sig products as a whole has gotten worse. When I open shippments of anywhere from a dozen to a hundred pistols, I’m finding more and more manufacturing problems. Dove tails over cut so that the sights can slide around by hand, black finishes having spotting, sharp edges where there shouldn’t be, steel burrs left inside the pistol, springs out of spec,…the list goes on and on. As an agency, parts are also not lasting as long. Take down levers are breaking more often, slide release levers are breaking before the 5k round service, along with cracking slides and frames. Suprisingly, I’m seeing a lot of German made frames that are wearing much faster, stripping out grip screw threads, and finish problems. My guess is that the Sig USA contract with Germany specifies cheaper materials and finish. Pretty much any Sig imported into the country now days is not in the same league as those produced in West Germany. Two of the DOI’s biggest contract purchases was for P228s in 1992, and P220s and P226s in 1994. Most of those guns are still in service and are performing quite well. Since we’ve been adding more accessory railed models to the inventory, those new models have are not demonstrating the same level of durabilty and reliability that we’ve seen with our old Sigs. We’ll be approaching 20 years of Sig use in 2012, and with our new SOPs a lot of officers are pushing to move away from Sigs. We’re currently looking into piggy-backing onto the ATF contract for Glocks or M&Ps.

All that being said, I have little experience with Sig rifles. However, given what I have experienced, in addition to many others on this forum such as Larry Vickers, Pat Rogers, and Gary Roberts…I wouldn’t touch a new product from Sig with my own money with a 10’ pole. Likely, a Sig M4 variant would be on the same level as Bushmaster.

For less than 900$ you could get a BCM 16" middie which is a proven product. Why gamble when there is so much reputable compagnies with solid products and very good pricing ?

Also sweet deal on the Colt 6920 @ 990$ http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=6920

I disassembled one at a local shop. F marked front sight base, 1/7 twist, I think it had M4 feedramps as well. Carbine buffer, non-MP marked bolt, semi auto carrier, staking was there, but I wouldn’t call it adequate. Didn’t check the receiver extension to see if it was commercial or milspec. Barrel wasn’t marked as cold hammer forged or MPI/HPT. No idea what the barrel is made of. With their individual officer pricing program it would be just under $900 out the door.

Jesus christ. 556s, piston driven ARs, and now DI ARs? SIG, stop throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Big bucket of management fail.

Go BCM or DD.

I was talking this past weekend with some friends from my old unit and they just got five of the M400’s. He said they are all fairly impressed with them, said all 5 are proving to be some of the most “out of the box” accurate AR models they have had right up there with the 516’s they got last winter. He said they played with them a couple of thousand rounds worth on Saturday afternoon and not a single failure in the batch even when one of the guys went to his truck and brought out a couple of boxes of Russian made metal cased $4.00 a box stuff from Wal-mart, said the M400’s just like the 516’s just ate the stuff up and kept going. He said they are as accurate as the shooter and quality of the ammo is capable of and that after putting some scopes on a couple of them and sighting them in with the good ammo the units best distance shooters were putting out groups where the holes were all touching each other at the edges. I’m wondering if the civilian versions are also as impressive as they seemed to be with them.

+1

buying a sig AR-15 is like almost like…buying a sig 1911 :haha:

Wow. So many words, and yet so little actual content. . .

Please share with us what “unit” has received them for testing. I’ll be quite honest I find it hard to believe.

Nothing personal, but that has got to be one of the most ridiculous posts I’ve seen in a long time on this forum. Reading this I feel about that same as I do when watching this:

LE or mil unit?

I was actually gonna ask when he started working for Sig.

Oh, I know it’s bullshit. I just like to set the hook nice and firm.

Damm, I’d have to agree. They are dilluting their product line instead of improving it. I think they need to show a bit of dedication to the products they put out instead of abandoning them. I thought their new DI AR was a the 516?

That being said, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences w/ their customer service so far. Unfortunately, buying a 250 led me to dealing with sig CS. 229 and 226 are solid though.
