Run away ads, redirects

This is actually a growing problem for sites with ads.

The Ads themselves are doing the redirects. It is something not permitted by most agreements but companies sneak them through anyway. They forward you to the IOS or Android App store and get revenue every time it happens.

Here is an older article about it. It has been happening a lot again lately.

Describes me, too. - john

Damn - just did it now!!!

Happening here to. I just clicked on a thread and got an Uber page.

Galaxy 5s.

It isn’t M4C, it is called malware…betting most of you are social media addicts that don’t keep stuff updated. It can be click fraud, sales oriented or something more serious. Although the serious stuff (Chinese) doesn’t draw attention to itself like the crap being described here.

This has started happening to me about 5 days ago. Only on my Iphone 5 with safari and it redirects me to the app store with random apps. I have to click the back button and it takes me back two pages and then it happens again later on, maybe 30 mins to an hr before it happens again though.

My computer is good to go running windows xp with google chrome browser.

Please keep us updated on a fix.

Happening to me too. Iphone 6.

Hey guys, I can’t recreate it so I’ll see if the guys at the hosting/support center can figure it out.

Whatever the hell it is - it is getting worse. Took me 4 tries in the last five minutes to get to this thread.
I’m assuming nothing can be done from the forum side of things? And as I’m a techno- peasant geezer, I sure as hell can’t do anything. As much as I really hate to say this - it forces me away from this forum to others:(. And I guess that brings up the question - why does it not happen elsewhere???
Good luck battling this - whatever it is:) john

M4C could turn off ads but then the operating expenses would have to come from other sources. You can disable JavaScript. It doesn’t really affect M4C’s functionality but other sites may look wonky.

Firefox with Ad Block Plus, I barely see the forum ads that are supposed to show up.

Ghostery for Firefox and Chrome is a good extension for hiding ads and has other useful blocking tools.

Sent using Tapatalk for Android

I haven’t had any redirects or forced ads for the last couple days. I am using the same device as in my OP. No updates, malware blockers or Antivirus have been installed since original post.

Don’t know what changed here, but it seems to have worked.

Now onto not getting email alerts to subscribed threads after the last update…

Checked my settings and I’m all good. Happened after previous update also and someone fixed it some how.

Thanks in advance to the Mods and IT folks.

It’s been happening to me as well the past few days. Galaxy S5 and Chrome and I’m being sent to the Google Play Store. I’m on the back button before I see which app/apps it’s sending me to. However clicking the back button takes me back at least one page further than I want to go.

It only happens on this site.

Neither I nor the guys at the datacenter can recreate the problem. Can someone post or PM me a screenshot or video of it happening? Thanks!

There is a video in that article showing what happens to me. I’ll be browsing the forum and I get sent to the App Store.

I would highly recommend buying Tapatalk. I find it really handy.

I personally like having the same format on my mobile devices as my computer.

I agree. I find using the full site on a mobile device downright painful. I do like the older versions of Tapatalk better than the latest though.

I get the same feeling from using Tapatalk, as I do when I step on Legos in the middle of the night, on a tile floor.

That’s dangerous. You should make your kids clean up their mess before they go to bed.

I actually rolled back a few versions of Tapatalk. I couldn’t stand the new one & the readability blows, IMO. Go back too far & the picture hosting is spotty.
Right now I’m in my Tapatalk happy place.
