Hey. I’m an IT guy and a Discourse expert who was peripherally involved in the migration. I might be able to help with some of the issues. If you or your IT folks need another hand, please send me an email. (I’d send a PM but messaging is disabled, for me at least).
Preferences, Interface, then select Theme Default. That will get you dark background and white text. So far there isn’t an option for light background and dark text for general forum reading, only in text reply boxes, drop down menus and reply quotes.
Apologies. I don’t really belong here, but I noticed this discussion and make my living with the software that people are unhappy with. It’s fairly common that people are unhappy with change, but the vast majority of the time people are pretty happy to have moved after a month or two.
Highlight/select the text you want to quote and click the quote button.
Thanks still trying to adapt. I think the thread options changeover is throwing a lot of people off. Sometimes I try and quote somebody but forget to highlight it and it doesn’t happen.
Given what seem to be most of the gripes here, it seems to me what might have avoided this is if there had been a pinned “How to use the NEW site features” post by the admin/IT crew…
I didn’t know the YT vid embed was now an auto feature simply pasting a link would activate. I was looking for the “video insert/code” button still too.
Although I don’t know how some folks could not figure out the quote feature… haha
Also I am getting, on PC, a black/dark grey background with white text, and orange highlights.
Quote boxes are white with black text. I never changed any settings so… maybe different on PC vs phone?
You also don’t need to highlight. Select a comment you want to reply to. Hit the reply button. Up in the upper left is a little bubble symbol next to the B for bold icon. Click that and it will quote the entire post you are repling to.
For me, the layout just sucks, it looks awful. And that has nothing to do with changing something I was comfortable with. To me, the old site looked great. I could see immediately when there was a new post or topic. I don’t need notifications, unless I’m buying or selling something on a site. For me, it seemed more user friendly. It’s been said that the old site was slow, but I don’t care. Slow was the dial-up era.
The complaints about it being slow are from the last couple months before it moved. It was incredibly overrun with bots in that time, and I suspect there is more to the story.
Thanks, to those that figured out quoting. I appreciate it. I will say, picture posting is much easier, for me. Despite multiple tries, and coaching from Stickman and others, I never was able to get it right on the old site.
