Due to a past medication, the FAA mandated that I take a neuropsychological exam. I failed. I’ll never be a pilot. One of the reasons was “stereotypical male interest.”

WTF?
FAA…
F***ing
All
Airmen
“We’re not happy until YOU’RE not happy!”
Same BS here because of a misdiagnosis of ADHD as a kid before we really understood high-functioning autism… being force-fed Ritalin from it was just one of my long list of 4-F’s for military service too. Your pain is shared, brother. ![]()
I have no familiarity with FAA but is this private, commercial, or military?
Can you not get a waiver?
Have you talked to a lawyer?
Private with the hope of military.
Is this some sort of code word for “toxic masculinity” or is there more to this err…”diagnosis”?
There’s a little bit more, but I couldn’t believe “stereotypical male interests are a negative for pilots” was in the report
Get a lawyer and appeal.
That sounds stupid if true and that was held against you
I guess you have to hate what you do in order to be hired! Nothing like hating your job to really show you care

Stop. Look up a Dr Bruce Chien. Aeromedicaldoc.com. You need an expert in this field. He will cut through the bs and tell you straight up, usually via email or phone before you have to retain him. He’s the leading expert.
I believe it’s too late for Dr. Bruce
What do you mean? Is he dead? I hope you’re not burning bridges.
It’s only too late if he says it’s done. He has limited space for new patients but he actually does take them. I had a past diagnosis that I needed to address and his guidance was spot on. Did it cost me a few AMUs for the headache of addressing that past Dr visit I had? Yes. But Dr Bruce was about $400 for everything he did including my actual medical exam. Reach out and see. PM me if you want to take this offline. I’m willing to help as much as a fellow aviator can.
I am really sorry to hear that. It sounds like you got a really crappy doctor. As a fellow pilot, I feel the pain and hope you can beat this and get it taken off of your record.
Was this for a commercial license or private?

Been there from an injury. Keep fighting until you can’t any more. If that time comes, there’s always a different way forward even if you initially don’t think it’s worth taking.

X2 on Bruce Chien. He is the AME SME.
I wouldn’t consider anything over until HE says it is over.
You hire him for a consult, NOT for an AME exam.
Good luck. Another pilot also happy to help however I can.
OP, join AOPA too–Dr. Bruce is, or was, very active on their forum. If there’s a way, even if it means Special Issue, he’ll find it.
Sounds possible you have a chance at an appeal from what others have posted. Give it your best.
If that fails, find a new dream and give that your best. I know that sounds trite, but I have personally found that it is my dedication and investment in a thing that makes the magic. For me at least, that is what matters more than the “dream”, or career, or woman or…
Go right to the source. Go to Dr Bruce. Keep your discussions online anonymous. It won’t really be an appeal, but I also couldn’t tell if you actually submitted an IACRA or not. If you got a cogscreen and a bad result and stopped, then you have a better chance.
What’s an IACRA
