Masada.

Masada is the name for a site of ancient palaces and fortifications in the South District of Israel on top of an isolated rock plateau on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea.

Masada became famous for its significance in the First Jewish-Roman War (Great Jewish Revolt), when a siege of the fortress by troops of the Roman Empire led to a mass suicide of the site’s Jewish defenders when defeat became imminent.

Is Magpul biting the hand that feeds them?

So, I should commit AR15 suicide and get ride of my AR platforms for a Masada?

Didn’t the Colonial Marines use these to fight off the horde of aliens?..

Why would Magpul be biting the hand that feeds them?

Why do some think that it has to be an either/or proposition?

Somehow I don’t think I’ll be dumping my Colts for this anytime soon.

I wonder how this will impact on other Magpul sales. I just don’t see Kevin “Mad Dog” McClung as a poster boy for the replacement for Eugene Stoner’s creation.

ETA: Oops. McKlung is not McClung.

I think more options are a wonderful thing.

I dig it.

Looks like a FN SCAR-L, XCR and Colt “M5” got together.

Dig the name too.

While I’m not going to boycott Rich over the stupidty of that line in his add, I’m none to impressed.

Add in his airsoftpat uniform - and I’m lukewarm to Dont GAF on the whole thing.

Those fellas at Magpul seem pretty smart, so let’s hope they take the advice about changing their Masada ad campaign.

It is an odd name for an American firearm…

My thoughts exactly.

So does anyone know if the mad dog collaborated on this project any any way other than to provide the quote?

Would it be a better idea to judge the rifle on its own merits instead?

I agree, I’m also not to happy with their advertising techniques.

someone finally said it.

I wonder what impact the name, Masada, will have on the export market. There are a billion mooselimbs out there who I somehow think will not be buying no matter what its quality. And Colt will be less than thrilled if the IDF starts buying them with US aid money.

If he did, it would be a FAL with a Magpul stock on it.

I’m an AR fan through and through, and I think the tag line is kind of funny. I don’t agree with it at all, but it makes me laugh. I’ve bought Glocks for years even though they aren’t perfect. If I avoided a product just because of something stupid in an advertisement, the only thing I’d have to my name is a box of rocks.

The name is a bit obscure, and a lot of people won’t get it. A lot of other people will probably read too much into it. I almost always prefer simple alphanumeric titles, like MSR for Magpul Service Rifle, or MR-556 or something like that.

All in all though, it’s an impressive concept, and shows great promise. I hope they can pull it off and I’m able to buy one in the future.

I’m betting that they didn’t see it as a bashing the AR15/M16 platform, but as a just saying that there is really nothing more that can be done to improve it, it’s at it’s zenith. The only thing left to do is start from scratch.

If that’s the case they kind of have a point, There will be no more monumental improvements on the AR/M16 line of weapons, just minor things.

But considering the source of the quote, I may be wrong.

How would MagPul be biting the hand that feeds it. The hand is us! All the AR-15/M-16 manufacturers and millions of units already in use would not suddenly go away because they might possibly come up with a viable alternative. They are obviously not the only company working to design a replacement for our favorite carbine. I do agree that the name has a limiting ring to it. A number would probably be a better way to go, or how about MagPul individual weapon system. When is the last time you saw a MagPul product you did not like? We are living in a very interesting time. Keep those ideas coming!!!

Billy

i’m fine with the name. however, i think that the quote used was just an ill-conceived marketing slip-up and to me, out of character for magpul. it unfortunately might end up turning off some potential customers (not me), even though it’s not a reflection on magpul’s innovative and well-made products. the 2nd mistake was choosing a quote from a controversal person. doing that just guarrantees you’re going to distance yourself from some.

back to the weapon - i like the looks and concept of the masada and am excited to see something different. the more options are offered to the consumer, the better (for the consumer). i look forward to seeing how it performs and holds up.

Thats what I meant to say.

I have a lot of Rich’s stuff I have taken in harms way, he has been very supportive of me – he sold guys in unit a shitload of Ranger Plates at cost, provided experimental stuff for free etc.

I’m just not digging the idiot comment of MadDog since I’m quite happy with the M16 Family of Weapons.
