It reminded me more of the guns from that Space Above and Beyond show that lasted about a season or two.
You guys do realize that arguing over this is completely retarded right?
Rich, if you’re reading this, good luck with the Masada. If it’s anywhere near the quality of the rest of your products, you will have a winner. Just take your time and do it right like you always do. No need to rush to “beat the ban” or whatever else people are dreaming up. A good weapon is just that, and I don’t care if it’s in my hands or a soldiers, and I don’t care if it hits the market in 6 months or 6 years. As long as we get that legendary Magpul quality.
To the rest of you, STFU, and take Alpha Sierra’s advice. I’m here to get away from this pointless bickering. There’s a train wreck of a thread on ARF right now (titled I hate ARs or something dumb like that), and sadly this one looks a lot like it.
I think the point is that most of us are very open to anything that works and is an asset as a combat tool. THe point is that many of us respect the heck out of Magpul and their product line, but can’t understand quoting a guy who has never served anywhere or been in any kind of combat environment with the AR/M16 system. It would have been a better route to quote someone who truely has an understanding of the system and its use and the fact that they find the Masada to be an improvement.
Simmer down, you know that we won’t let it get out of hand like some other places. ![]()
So far I haven’t seen anything other than folks voicing their opinions or offering their perspectives. That’s fine as long as its respectful.
Hopefully Rich will come along and explain his side of it.
Understood. Just don’t get too caught up in the quote alright guys. Its not a big deal. Lets start discussing the features of this great new product.
On a related note, is there a pic of the new VLTOR buis floating around somewhere?
Will it accept a RDIAS?
If no, then I’m out.
ask, and you shall receive. just put some more pics up last night:

WOW!
That is sweet! And your pictures kick ass as well ![]()
And it would be easier if MagPul didn’t muddy the waters by needlessly pissing off the group that made them with that moronic quote.
Everybody gets tone deaf from time to time. I hope Rich hears the shout and fixes that ad because it just doesn’t work as is.
I really like MagPul and have put many dollars in their pockets. Ther products are top notch and their customer service is excellent. I really want them to be a success but this is like trying to sell illegal immigration to the Minutemen.
If you are going to enter a dance contest, it makes no sense to first shoot yourself in one foot.
I for one cannot wait to see the finished product. There is a multi-million if not billion-dollar market that is targeting 1960’s technology when it comes to the AR platform. It is very exciting to see new designs that seek to produce a new weapon that is geared towards today’s warrior rather than companies that seek to rectify known shortcomings on the AR. Regardless of however everyone takes the quote on the add and the dislike of the “airsoft” uniform as it was put, this rifle looks to break the mold. I wonder if this is the same type of resistance the M16 received when it was first introduced.

I have yet to see anyone criticze the MagPul rifle, only the ill-concieved marketing campaign. It looks like a solid design and I am sure they can pull it off.
The simple truth is this, any future military rifle is going to contain alot of this 1960’s technology because the final form of the cased projectile weapon has pretty much been decided thru trial and error. Any improvements will be incremental and not revolutionary until we abandoned the cased projectile. The design of the self-loading combat arm is very mature at this point in time.
The MagPul rifle contains a bunch of 1960’s technology because it has many design elements of both the M-16 and the AR-18.
Look at knives. Except for improvements in materials, they look pretty much the same as they did over a hundred years ago.
Look at NASA’s design for its new manned deep space ship. It looks like a giant Apollo.
Until something better replaces chemical rockets and cased cartridges, don’t be suprised. There is plenty of ‘Back to the Future’ engineering in the Masada too.
So the rumor on TOS is this thing is 18 months out. Lots of bad things can happen in DC in 18 months.
Heavy Metal,
I get it, you disagree with the add, and so do others but I doubt that anyone is going to stop using the many Magpul products that have been proven under fire for one quote.
You are right, there is a lot of 1960’s technology in this rifle, but there are not many companies that have sought to take those proven qualities to make a new rifle, they have only sought to improve an older weapon. I did not mean that all the components on this rifle were revolutionary, just the finished product is.

The design looks promising and innovative, and will hopefully spawn other companies to start something from the ground up. Can you imagine a totally new LaRue weapon, as opposed to just a simple replacement AR upper and lower?
My grandfather was a POW in Nazi-occupied Africa, and suicide never crossed his mind. There’s a possibility of future revolt, possiblility of escape, possibility of being released… Suicide is just plain giving up. Why name a weapon system praising that? And why couldn’t Magpul think of something in American history to name it after?
Has anyone else considered the name from the Roman’s perspective-- IE, a weapon when wielded will make the opponent dispair to such an extent he kills himself.
THAT would make sense…
I considered that too Zak, which would put it in great perspective. But someone else posted this, from another board:

Yeah I guess Thermopylae is a sucky name for a rifle.
After looking into it, I think it’s kind of an odd name too. I don’t mean any offense to anyone, but I don’t consider the Masada incident even remotely honorable, and especially not fitting to a weapons platform.
That said, I still like it. ![]()

I don’t think you can make a good name out of Roarke’s Drift.
