Hopefully these will work out well as I’m needing a good .22 trainer. Even training with 9mm can get steep at times.
hmm… even if it has a zinc slide, it may be alright. price doesn’t look too terrible.
advantage arms isn’t making a kit for these guns yet?
I’ve e-mailed both AA and Tactical Solutions about this an M&P .22LR conversion. Both companies replied that there are no plans to produce one.
Grant,
Have you heard if the scale is 100% to the M&P 9/40/357? I seem to recall an old thread that indicated that the M&P 22 would be slightly undersized and there could be holster fitment issues.
I have not heard, but will check.

Zinc slide or not, and undersized construction or not, I want another .22 fun gun – and I’ve been chomping at the bit to see S&W release this. I intend to buy this when it comes out.
I talked to S&W (free time on my hands and needed to call looking for a 10lb MAS trigger spring for my M&P9c)
All i could find out was YES it is true and not word on release date.
He did tell me they will not be “made in house” but rather made by Walhter.
I ask why and he only replied “good question”.
seems info is tough to get on these even for a CS rep.
(I bet Grant would get better answers He didn’t seem willing to
talk much about it like it is some secret or something. Heck i didn’t even get info on the trigger spring i’m looking for)
He did tell me they will not be “made in house” but rather made by Walther.
The question is will it really be made by Walther or will it be farmed out by Walther to someone like Umarex. Big question.
It’s kinda obvious that I DON’T want a Walther P22 that looks like an M&P.
slaps head S&W could have a license to print money with this thing, and they subcontract it out to the same idiots that make the P22? Are they trying to become HK?
So could Advantage Arms. I’m convinced that company, as good as their products are, is run by…uh let’s just say below-average IQ. They have never been able to meet market demand for their Glock conversion kits. Oh, and they refuse to make <10 round magazines because they’re in California.
Maybe Spikes or CMMG can get into the 22LR pistol conversion game ![]()
Talked to S&W about this yesterday. It should be VERY close to the same size. So my guess is that it will work with the same holsters.
At Shot, I will try and nail down a lot of things (as they will let me disassemble the weapon).

Before everyone gets their pitch forks out, let’s at least see how this thing does. Walther DOES have the capability to make a good gun so give them the benefit of the doubt.

Also remember that the more poor performing guns like this are much smaller, I think the size works to be in favor of this being a good gun.
As far as the zinc thing goes, I am not convinced that if the slide is the same size that zinc is a bad choice, we arent shooting .40 out of this thing, it is a .22. Use materials that are appropriate to a .22.
I think people are concerned because the walther p22 has a serious history of slide cracks.
that said, if the slide on this thing is thicker in the right places, it may hold up really well.
building 22’s too lightly is kind of a bad idea, because even a casual shooter may put a fairly astronomical round count through them.
That is more so due to the fact that the P22 is tiny, I would evaluate it for what it is and call it an isolated incident.
yeah that may well be the issue. tiny+zinc slide might be a bad combo.
let’s see how the M&P fairs. the centerfire version certainly outperformed the expectations of most.
I truly hope that this doesn’t turn out to be a POS. I am pulling for these guys to get it right, if they do, this will fly off the shelf.
What i’m wondering is where did this “Zinc” slide “rumor” start??
I see one post of someone saying “it looks like a Zinc slide”
and now that has spread to a few other forums.
When the details on the sites advertising them clearly say
“Smith & Wesson M&P Semi-automatic 22LR
4.1 Aluminum Black Polymer 10Rd 2 Mags
Fired Case Ambidextrous Adjustable Sights 122000”![]()
::sigh:: Let the M&P22 rumors begin…
:suicide:
I’m interested.
Hopefully it will mirror the M&P9 in size and trigger.
It started when firearms mfg’s started making .22’s out of airsoft ZAMACK. Sig Mosquito, Walther P22 etc. Notorious for crappy performance and slides cracking.
BTW your quoted site lists the “frame” as being made from Al, awesome reference!
Time will tell of course, we all hope the new M&P22 is “the one” but subbing the gun out to Walther, who’s already shown an inability to make a durable .22 auto pistol, does not inspire confidence.
It would be a real home run if SW can add to the success of the M&P pistol platform with a durable, reliable .22 version, I’ll certainly buy one.
