I have no info… But I want to know if you can remove the manual safety… If so, I’ll be getting one.
Zinc slide probably from the looks of it…sigh…
That looks very interesting, but it’s the first I’ve heard. I would certainly be interested in owning one if I could get it without the safety.
Oh it better not be…hope like hell it’s got an aluminum or steel slide…
What’s the real skinny on these…$365 price looks pretty damn good to me…if it works and has good slide material…
I would love one of those. Missing having a .22 version since I switched to shooting just M&P’s pistols.
If you search google with the model # 122000 and M&P you’ll see other vendors have placeholders for it.
I hope they make a .22 kit in addition to the firearm for us folks in California since it won’t make the current approved CA handgun roster.
I’ve heard talk… but this is the first time i have seen a picture or proof that it will ever make production.
For those that asked (just like the full sized M&P’s) YES you can take the manual safety lever or levers off. They even sell a plug for the hole.
BUT you can NOT add the manual safety to a model that does not come with one without change of slide and frame.
Here’s the skinny from Smith. I called them this afternoon to see if they could dig up some more info for me.
These are made by Walther in Germany. They are not produced in house.
They’re expected in April of 2011 with an initial order of 2500 units.
There are two versions 10 and 12 round magazines.
MSRP is 419.99
That was basically all they could tell me at the current time. What i thought was really kind of funy was the fact that the Smith CS rep that i spoke to said two things.
Kind of a shame but im really hard up for an M&P .22 trainer. Unless someone gives us definitive info on a .22 conversion at Shot Show ill probably be picking one of these up come April 2011.
FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!
I might as well just buy a P22.
I just woke the dog up laughing.
I had pretty much the exact same thought.
I hope Apex is in the process of taking up the slack.
I was under the impression that all S&W M&Ps had Walther slides… Can someone confirm or disprove this?
Got my attention, but, if this thing is built like a Walther P22, I’ll hold out for a good .22 top end kit, from Tactical Solutions, or the like.
this would have been perfect addition to my M&P 15-22
guess ill have to wait for a top half like others.
I believe you’ll find that Smith & Wesson produces the slides for the M&P in house and has them sent to a third party in CONUS for the nitrocarbuerizing process.
Walther, to the best of my knowledge, has nothing to do with the production of the center-fire M&P pistols.
I’ll hold off judgement until I learn more and see on in person. I don’t care if they are produced by Walther as long as it was to S&W spec. Time will tell but its too early to pronounce it DOA.
ETA: Also, if this is reliable it could help sway me back to the M&P full time. The lack of a 22LR kit is one of the reasons I went back to Glock. Not the only reason but one of them.
very interesting
I could deal with the zinc slide for what it is…
Especially if it comes with S&W’s warranty. I could send it back every year for replacement.
I am really needing a .22 conversion for my M&P!
Buckaroo
I would also prefer a good conversion kit, but if this pistol approximates the trigger on an M&P I still think it could be a worthwhile training tool.
Yes, this will be showed at Shot Show. I is made for S&W by Walther.
There is supposed to either be a threaded barrel model or be able to purchase a threaded barrel.
We will be stocking them when they come out.
