M&P vs CZ

Was curious if any m&p people have migrated to the CZ? I’ve been researching them and I’ve read and heard great things about them. Ideally I’d like to get the polymer and steel versions. The m&p has been good minus the accuracy issues and the cost to get it right…which is why I’ve hesitated buying more of them. This has ultimately led me to looking for something else.

Are the ergonomics similar or is the cz (P07) more like the Glock?

I wish there were more sight options like the trijicon or ameriglo, maybe in the future they’ll come out with something.

Any comparisons of the two is appreciated.

Thanks

Pick an action, roll with it. Don’t try to do P07/09 and the standard action; pick one beforehand. I picked the standard action.

Ok, thanks.

I think the M&P is a great gun. The ergos are very good, maybe the best in the industry (maybe the Vp9/PPQ M1, but I hate their slide levers). I had great service out of my .45 M&Ps and have nothing bad to say about them. The 9mms, not so much. Accuracy issues, weird QC issues like so much flash in the mag well that the mags wouldn’t fall, free, etc. For some reason the 9mm M&P seems cursed.

I have only owned one CZ and it is excellent. Interestingly, the inside of it shows extremely crude machining in areas that, frankly, are not relevant–but it is east block rough. But the gun shoots smoothly and is reliable with a broad range of ammo. I think the CZ ergos (mine is an Sp-01 ) are way better than Glock but inferior to the latest autoloader generation.

Honestly, you will probably be fine with either. One thing I like about the M&P is that you can install laser grips with no real negative effect on ergonomics. I love the integrated laser. You might be able to do grips with the CZ, but they will be chunky.

I have several M&P’s but only one CZ, the older model P-07 Duty. Both guns have strengths and weakness. I really like the M&P series and have not had any accuracy issues in any of mine (which are all well used), but did shell out extra coin for Apex kits and triggers. I have been told over and over that new production M&P’s have better stock triggers. Lots of holster, sight and other accessories are available with magazines coming in at $20 for ACT or $25 for factory (both of which work perfectly). The P-07 trigger is excellent right out of the box but there are a very limited number of sights/holsters available and the magazines run $42-45 each. But the ergos and the trigger are so good it might be worth just being happy with factory night sights and custom kydex. Both guns (ergonomically speaking) should make Gaston embarrassed over the Gen4 not-really-adjustable-backstrap debacle. I am seriously thinking about getting a 2nd Gen P-07 which addresses most of what I consider to be shortcomings in the older model. If I do my M&P’s will see far less action.

I had a cz and sold it due to aftermarket support price and availability. Accuracy is comparable.

I have an m&p40 and couldn’t be happier. I dont miss my cz.

I’ve owned 2 M&Ps and currently own 3 CZs. While the M&P is a good gun, the CZs are just better. Ergos are good on both the M&P and the CZ, but the CZ is just more accurate and has a MUCH better trigger. There are plenty of companies out that there make holsters for the Polymers and sights can be had from either CZ Custom or Cajun Gunworks. The M&P does have better aftermarket support, but that is less important to me than accuracy and trigger feel. Mags for the P-07/09 are up in the HK and Sig price range, but the metal CZ mags can be had for about $20 bucks (Mec-Gar) and due to the competition pedigree that the CZs have (Thanks to EAA and Tangfolio) there are ways to make them better.

In the end, it all depends on what you like. DA/SA hammer fired vs Striker fired. Both will do what you want, both feel great in the hand and both are reliable as all hell. Try to take the CZs out at a range that may rent them. Once you shoot them though, you will be hooked!!

I own both and I would sell the M&P before the CZ P-07. The CZ fits my hand as well as the M&P, but is more accurate, almost half the group size over the M&P. Cajun Gun Works has parts to make the CZ even better and holsters are becoming available. Magazines for the CZ are more expensive at this time, but hopefully Megar will be making mags under their own name soon.

Thank you for the responses! The aftermarket help and mags are a concern but not a deal breaker. As I said earlier, I like the m&p, but it requires more $ to get it right once I start dropping apex parts in it. Hopefully the range nearby has them, otherwise the cz’s aren’t that expensive and it wouldn’t be detrimental if I had to keep it or I’m sure I could sell it.
Thanks again

I had to grab both pistols and fondle them a little before I posted; I have an M&P9 and a CZ-P09. The CZ is not Glock like in any way shape or form. I have the small backstrap installed (wear a size 9 flight glove, medium sized hands), it fills my hands perfectly without feeling too big. The distance from the beavertail to the trigger is just longer than on the M&P. The CZ is softer recoiling as well as far more accurate. I have been in denial thinking that the M&P’s accuracy faults were due to my crappy shooting, but in fact, it is the gun, ever so often throwing fliers. The CZ is laser accurate. Now with that said, when I pick up the M&P, it’s like Greg Bell said, ergonomically, it is damn near perfection. I have the Apex FSS installed and it is WONDERFUL. If you find a newer model Smith that is cured of the accuracy issue, it would be money well spent.

As for aftermarket support for the CZ, the sight options are limited, but if you don’t mind spending a little extra, you can send the slide out to get milled so that it will accept more options. The magazines have a slight work around. If you have a stash of M9 magazines or can find them cheap, they will fit and function in the CZ, (P-07 not P-09). The only downside, it will not lock back on the last round due to follower geometry, but I suspect that can be remedied with a dremel. Happy hunting.

My experience with the m&p trigger is that it’s a non issue. It’s not good, and doesn’t feel good, but if you dry fire it should hold you back.

Mines a 2012, but maybe I got a good one.

That said, the cz with sao trigger is nice and I hear adding the comp hammer is just sickeningly nice.

Owned full sized M&P with the upgraded faster twist barrel. Good accuracy, decent trigger. Own a Shield, with APEX parts and a trigger job by Greg Derr that turned it into the best trigger on a striker fired gun I’ve ever used. That being said I’ve migrated over to CZs. I’d rate M&P ergonomics as excellent for my hands. The CZ 75 and SP-01… I’d write poetry about. They just fit so good. My Shadow, in SA is just about as good as any trigger I’ve tried and that’s before sending it to CGW or diddling with springs. Take my experience with a grain of salt because I’m moving away from strikers and going toward more TDA and metal framed guns. That being said I’m lining up to get a P07 and P09.

CZ makes nice guns that are accurate, reliable, feel good in the hand. The problem I have with them is how small their slides are, I prefer something with a little more girth, just not quite M9 fat.

I have five CZ pistols including a dedicated Kadet .22lr pistol, and even a Kadet Kit conversion unit. I only have all steel, or alloy framed CZ’s. They are made the old school way, and are quality pistols of good value. I do not have any CZ polymer, but they also seem well made from what I can tell from examining, and shooting friend’s guns.

For me the M&P is not in the same league. I do think they are good shooters, and feel pretty good in the hand, but not near the feel of the metal CZ’s. I carry an alloy framed PCR, but I also like the railed P-01. The full size all steel guns are also a pleasure to shoot with my pre-B, and 97B .45 being favorites.

Thank you all, great advice.

I’ve owned a few of M&P’s and just as many CZ’s in the last decade, and would give the edge to CZ. I prefer the design of CZ’s, and the overall shooting characteristics.

I also think the M&P grip is not very good. Irrespective of the backstrap it feels contoured in all the wrong places, which makes for a sloppy feeling grip when shooting in my hands.

I’ve shot a few glocks (19/23) over the years but never really cared for them except for the perfect size and capacity.

A few years ago I purchased an M&P 9c, as the full size is just too big for my needs and the M&P is the 'merican version of the glock.

Mine has the newer factory machined sear, “H” trigger bar and bumped slide stop. The internals have been fully polished.

The thing now has a excellent trigger for a striker, shoots very softly, eats most any ammo and ejects pretty consistently.

It’s simple, easy to use and feels pretty good in the hands.

The one glaring issue has been the inconsistent accuracy that seems to be a combination of barrel/slide fit, recoil spring strength and striker trigger “snap”.

That, and the whole issue of striker safety for AIWB use, had me looking for alternatives.

Enter the CZ P07.

TBC…

I loved my old 9c, it was a great pistol just not the right size for CC…accurate & reliable.

Now I own the CZ p-09 which inside and out is as high quality as the M&P or any other plastic pistol I’ve owned. I can take my 09 and shoot it as well as I can shoot my friends M&P pro.

I like the 09 almost as much as my 75, and would really like a CORE. I hope one day to add a 40 cal P-07 to the collection just because I don’t have a 40, and would really love a CZ that was somewhat smaller for carry. However.com for now I’ll continue to carry my Shield because it’s not as thick as a brick.

I played with a 2014 production P07 for a few months last year. The trigger was not good (heavy da with a long break, lot of pretravel in sa), I didn’t care for the stock sights either. But that thing was accurate as all get out; shit the best 25 yd 10 rd group I’ve ever shot with a pistol. I hated the size of the decocker, it would tear my thumb up when using it. Carried similarly to a flock 19.

I ended up getting rid of it in favor of the m&p’s. Support, cheaper mags, etc were a big part of my decision.

Is there a way to eliminate the pre-travel in sa? I’m guessing aftermarket w/cgw?
