I’ve shot M&P’s for years and am currently committing to the P-09 and will eventually get a P-07.
To me, the CZ is seemingly a higher-quality, better built gun. CZ ergos rival the M&P. It is easier to reload, and most importantly, I can’t do anything to make it auto-forward. With all of my M&P’s I could breathe on them and the slide would go forward. Except when they didn’t. And more than once, they failed to pick up a round in the process. The CZ is also inherently more accurate than the M&P, at least in 9mm.
Downsides are the DA/SA—if you go that route, which I have—and the fact that there is less slide to work with because it rides inside the frame. The lack of aftermarket support is also a problem. I will likely replace the stock sights as soon as I get around to it, but I’ll have to pick something other than the Trijicon HD’s that I’m used to. There’s a few other quirks I’m going to have to work around, but overall I think I’ll be happier with the CZ.
I’ve got both, and will keep both for different purposes.
I have 2 M&P9fs, both with apex parts, and a shield that is stock. I also have the older duty version of the P-07. But I have the one with the slightly extended barrel, S/A only and with tritium night sights.
The P-07 is more accurate no doubt. My M&P’s aren’t bad though, the P-07 is just better. Right now I can shoot the M&P a bit better at speed than the P-07, but it’s close.
The P-07 is my primary carry pistol, with the Shield seeing summer time use. But for HD, I like the larger frame of the M&P’s. And I like having the Crimson trace grips on my HD M&P even more. For low light, it’s a big positive.
To be perfectly honest, that’s really the only reason I still have my M&P’s. Otherwise I would have Glocks or a P-09 and the P-07.
I prefer the CZ, but I have never carried a pistol as part of my professional attire. It’s safe to say that CZ’s are not a typical standard issue weapon in this country, and I’m not certain that they would have a stellar record if adopted by a large agency. Despite the company hype, it’s not clear to me just who, when, and where these pistols have been adopted in Europe or Asia. On our forum, I’ve noticed that first Glocks, then M&Ps, and now CZ’s have been popular choices. We know the shortcomings of the first two, and we’ll no doubt discover the came in the CZ line.
CZ all the way. I bought a CZ75B Omega, liked it so much that I picked up SP-01, and am now looking at their poly guns. The M&P that I had a chance to play with seemed to shoot patterns more than groups. IMO - CZ75 and its variants are the best “wonder nines” made.
While we’re on this point, what about the M&Ps design make them so prone to auto forwarding? Something to do with the design/shape/engagement of the slide stop?
I just purchased a P-07, last week. The manufacture date is from May of last year. I love the feel, ergos, looks and trigger of this pistol. However, I’ve had three stove pipes, a double feed and a failure to go into battery in which the round dove upward to the top of the chamber. Ejection from this pistol has been abysmal with most spent cartridges landing only a foot away. Now, this of course was only with what I had on hand at the time, which was 115 gr Freedom Munitions reman ball ammo. I did not put any other ammo through it. On the other hand, I have about 6,000 of this ammo through various Glocks and M&Ps without a single malfunction. I emailed CZ about the issue and they of course suggested I run some other ammo through it before sending it back, as this pistol runs better with hotter ammo, but at 1120fps for FM, how hot does it need to be? Will my HSTs at 1000fps not work in this pistol?
I never shot the CZ but I handled one a few times when trying to decide between the two. I wanted something different from my G19. I ended up going M&P because I’m not a fan of DA. The pistol didn’t fit my hand well enough to work the decocker easily. I went through the Grant to make sure I got a good M&P and had them polish it. I’ve been very happy with it, though I did throw in a complete Apex kit (more out of desire than need). I’ve never noticed anything that made me think it’s inaccurate.
I was planning on the getting the cz but I’m am now really interested in the sig 320. A complete 180 of what I thought I would do. I would still get the 75B though…
I shot 147 grain HST out of my 07
I did not have any problems with it functioning. I am guessing it was about 200 rounds. Not a lot but enough for me to be happy with it
My first P07 (duty model) was very easy to rack, my wife had no issues with it at all. My next P07 (2014 model) was noticeably harder to rack and my wife had more trouble with that one. Two boxes of NATO spec ammo and a box of 124+P loosened it up to where my wife could rack it just fine. I thought it was because the frame to slide fit was tighter due to the changes they made in the polymer for the frame and the slight changes in the frame dimensions. It never occurred to me that it was the recoil spring. Either way a few boxes of hotter ammo worked it out.
The spring is the exact same found in the P-09. Hence why it’s much harder to rack the P-07’s slide and why it usually prefers NATO spec full power ammo until it’s broke in. I’m with the guy above though, that P320 really has me interested. The VP9 doesn’t do it for me, even though I love H&K. (I’m one of those, that actually doesn’t like the finger grooves of the P30, HK45, and VP9. Prefer a USP or USPc with Hogue grip).
Last week I ran about 400rds of 124gr blazer aluminum case thru my fresh from the box P-09, I dont know if 115’s would be
any different but I didnt experience any failures of any kind, I was kind of on the fence about this pistol until that first session.
Not anymore, I just finished stippling the front and backstrap and ordered the entire parts suite from CGW, it’s definitely a
keeper, cant wait to get some more work in with it.
