There was some media video of all of his “stuff” on another news site. It looked like he had a SBR upper for an AR-15 and some sort of MP5 or clone which would have also been an NFA weapon. I’m guessing those weren’t registered and tax-paid.
He also had a lot of other stuff that was perfectly legal in itself (body armor, non-NFA weapons, ammo, magazines, armor carriers, chemicals with legitimate uses that can also be used to make explosives, etc.) but looks REAL bad when combined with other alleged facts.
The media keeps quoting the prosecutor’s statement about a document on how to kill someone from 200 meters away, as though that is some great feat that entails more than basic marksmanship.
I’m very curious to know exactly what he requested using the stolen police agency letterhead (i.e., whether it was information or “stuff” like the body armor).

I think this case is pretty murky, it looks like the kid is in deep $*%t, but you never know how much is fact, how much is creative interpretation by prosecutors, and how much is media hysteria. Either way, regardless of the truth, this kid is looking at a serious boning.

If there was any real violence committed, then this becomes a slam dunk case with my full support. Punks who commit real acts of violence should be punished. Someone with a bunch of guns and some minor explosives knowledge OTOH, hasn’t hurt a soul.

Especially when that kid has been in military school his whole life, has a collection of weapons (illegal or not), explosives, and motorcade plans. The doc they found about killing a person at 200yds is a little disturbing too since it seemed he wanted more details than he could find elsewhere about the process.
This kid obviously has no intentions to use his weapons for anything else other than to harm other human beings and that one reason should disqualify him from life in society.
We should look at this as a lesson to what can happen if you buy your kids guns (and/or R rated video games) to keep them happy instead of loving them

Dude, step back and think about that statement. Couldn’t that be applied to any of us who train to shoot defensively, if the press wanted to?
This one as well, what kind of document is it? A stadia guide for using the human torso as a ranging measurement? Maybe one that explained how the math worked to make that FFP measurment work? Think about how it would look if you got arrested and the police stacked all of your gear and books in the most incriminating way possible.
Not saying that the kid isn’t cracked, but do not buy in to the Press’s bullshit scare mongering.
I agree that there are lots of perfectly legit folks out there whose closets could be emptied of perfectly legal items to put on a “scare show.” It is extremely aggravating that the media and possibly the prosecutor are harping on things that are perfectly legal in themselves in most cases. If you have a case, make it in court and prove he committed actual crimes.
This is not a simple case of “you possessed something that is unlawful to possess.” It’s not illegal to possess the chemicals he had, for example. The problem comes when they find things like several gallons of acetone when you aren’t a painter, several gallons of H2O2 when you aren’t a hospital, and several gallons of pool acid when you don’t own a pool or maintain one, combined with maps of sensitive locations where you don’t work or have access. If this kid were 30 years old and Arab, he’d be in a bottomless pit right now.
So aside from carjacking the old man, I can understand why LE would be very concerned with this young man.
