Almost exactly the same list came to my head as I was clicking on the thread! I have:
Springfield Armory PX9109LP (Parkerized Loaded with some tweaks) for which I would like to get a .22lr slide
Walther P99 QA (same as a Glock 19 but with better ergonomics IMHO)
I will have a some sort of light weight J frame .357 Smith here soon, though I don’t know which one yet.
I think that’s a great list!
P7M8. The finest CCW handgun in the world. As Ken Hackathorn calls it, “The Porsche of handguns.”
+2 more P7s
I just had a realism flashback. Sadly the average gunowner here is entiteled to own just two handguns & semi-automatic rifles- more is granted only for a “good reason” plus proof (hunting permit, competition lists, etc.)! At least conversion kits don’t take one place. So many guys choose Glocks in 9mm with conversion kits in .22, .40 or .357Sig. Some add shoulder stocks to make up for not having a carbine.
Really?
I always thought you were a 1911 man who was having a fling with a Glock 19.
Picking 3 out of my safe:
1: HK45 My favorite fullsize .45 currently
2: HK45C My favorite .45 Period
3: Glock 19 My favorite 9mm Period
Alternate selection:
1: HK45C See Above
2: HK P30 My favorite non-19 9mm currently
3: Glock 19 See Above
G 19
5 inch , all steel 1911 in .45 acp
Airweight J Frame
5" 1911
Glock 17
J Frame
There seems to be a common repeating list in this thread… interesting…
If limited to three, I’d keep the following;
Full size 1911
Glock 19
S&W 642
There does seem to be a general trend developing here…
Smith & Wesson Model 66, 4" barrel.
Glock 17 or 19 (reliability and availability of accessories and parts)
Browning Buckmark .22.
Having only 3 handguns would be gay…
Out of what I have:
4" barrel S&W Model 65. A classic, rugged, powerful and accurate revolver that fires some of the most easily available (.38 S&W Special) and most effective (.357 Magnum) ammo on the planet. It is also easily concealable.
3" barrel S&W Model 29. Same as above but even more power.
M&P9c. Every day, go anywhere, do anything handgun. Easier to conceal than a J frame, especially in a tuckable holster for deep cover. Over twice the ammo capacity of the snubbie and lightning fast reloads.
In general, you should keep an eye toward more common systems with good availability of parts and support. You may want look at general purpose guns that you can use in all aspects of shooting - competition, defense, TEOTWAWKI.
A full size fighting handgun. Ideally something you can actually fight with if you can’t get your hands on a long gun. If you are buying new, you could do worse than a Glock 34 with some 19rd mags.
A deep concealment back up gun. A J-frame, Khar, Kel-tec or the like.
Ruger Mk II - suppressed or capable of being suppressed - useful for rats, squirrels, and other ‘pests.’
From Hunting to CCW my needs are filled…[ol]
[li]Sig SP2022 / .40
[/li][li]Sig 226 / 9mm
[/li][li]Ruger Redhawk / .44 mag w/ leupold scope
[/li][/ol]
G19, Colt Agent, Colt Combat Commander
I agree with the idea of a nice .22 for a survival situation but this thread is about Defensive Carry and personally I don’t need a .22 for that.
Well, a .22lr may not be a good defensive choice. However, a suppressed .22 has all sorts of offensive possibilities…
