All I can say is PRICELESS.
I’m much less concerned by the list price mark up, as opposed to the cheap stunt-like act of using the M4 profile bbl on a newer generation assault rifle. The first question that comes up is, what else have they messed with?

Someone said that BM doesn’t have CHF in 1x9, so they had to go out and spec them that way for new production. But then why put a M203 cut in a civilian barrel???
Same principle as adding Acura logos to your Honda.
It adds fifty horsepower and instantly gets you laid by hordes of supermodels.
I suspect the real reason is that bushmaster is run by a bunch of single celled organisms. Seriously, is bm even aware that the products they make are firearms? Sometimes I wonder.
Then the base model would be $3,000 and all the parts would be out of spec.

Who knows. I don’t see the purpose in the m4 profile barrel or 1x9 twist.
So if I don’t want that barrel I have to spend hundreds more on a good barrel + the parts to make it work with the ACR. There aren’t many choices either. Id want something like the Noveske N4 carbine barrel but I cant buy those by themselves.
Its just a clusterfuck to me. Im much more apt to spend 2k on the LaRue 5.56 OBR which is much more appealing to me, and quite a bit cheaper. Or just get another SR15. At $2700 for a basic ACR that has a crap barrel configuration its just not competitive for my money. I can get a fully equipped Noveske/LaRue/KAC gun for what it just costs to get into an ACR with no equipment.
Just got off the phone with Bushmaster and I asked about the barrels specifically the “innovative coating for extreme long life” and the rep didn’t know what the coating was other than it’s designed to be “slipperier” and to prevent corroding. he did say that the barrels WERE NOT chromed lined, nor were they phosphate coated. The one in nine twist rate was indeed used to take advantage of the commercially available ammo. He did say that they may make one in seven twist barrels later, but they would be using the “innovative coating for extreme long life” as well. Damn…
There is no logical reason to use 1x9 over 1x7. 1x7 shoots 55GR and up just fine, and allows you to shoot 70GR and up. The only advantage 1x9 has is in the loads like 45GR varmint loads which most people are not shooting. Id wager to say a lot more people shoot 70GR + loads than sub 55GR stuff.
I also don’t see the point in the M4 profile barrel, and then saying 1x9 is better for commercial ammo. If they are so worried about it they wouldn’t use an M4 profile barrel which is not designed with accuracy in mind due to the profile. There are stiffer designs out there that weigh the same.
Just stupid all around, and a major turn off to what was a promising gun a year ago.
I think I’ll have to go with the new m4 setup and a nice handgun before spending that much on one rifle alone. Those prices are total off the wall. If this is reflection of the development costs, they spent to much. There is no new technology in this rifle! They put existing technology in a new design.
Also why didn’t they allow for the installation of the Magpul MIAD grip?

Unfortunately the OBR just had a price hike and will set you back 3k. Even so, I am now excited to use my ACR money for an OBR, due to recent information.
the HK MR223 & MR308 MSRP are supposedly $3K & $3.5K according to a post over on HKPRO.

That’s what I don’t get, what is wrong with chrome lining? Heck do a M249 version if anything. Has anyone said that they were looking for something to replace chrome lining? Was there a huge issue or something?
The more you look at the ACR, the more odd some of the decision are.
The people that are laughing their asses off must be the FN guys. This is the rifle that they were worried about?
FN SCAR draws blood, while BM ACR draws ire.
about grips, I can see a possible strength issue with screwing in a polymer lower and a polymer grip. Using a metal screw, thats just asking for someone to strip the threads out a polymer lower. Unless they put in a metal thread insert

The OBR 5.56 was just announced at Shot, Mfinger posted on TOS that it will be 2k for that version.

Yep. Im much more inclined to spent 2k on the OBR Lite than 2700 on the ACR.
Also LaRue is 10 minutes away from me if I ever need something fixed. If something breaks on the ACR it will be a month turn around.
