What is the general consensus on these?
I can pick up one of these at a pretty good price, and I know ARMS usually makes good stuff but I want to make sure I am getting something that is not junk.

Its good stuff but most will say its heavy and outdated. I say go for it! ![]()
Some will say the rails are out of spec. They were the originator though, and they look soo cool.
it looks like rails on steroids! heavy but… looks good
The S.I.R. was the coolest rail system 1993 had to offer.
The higher rail meant to mounted optics needed lower mounts or you had to place your optics forward on the HG.
Times have changed, however the S.I.R. has not moved forward much. They are heavy, bulky, and over-priced (relative to the other offerings on the market).
My advice-
save a hundred bucks and 7oz and go with a nice comfortable Omega.
Yes they look cool and that is mainly why I want one. My current Free Float tube weighs in at 10.6 oz, so I am only picking up 4 oz with this one and a portion of that weight is over the receiver so balance should remain about the the same.
Another nice thing is that is I can ever find an ARMS # 40 (hint hint), it will match up with the portion of the rail that goes over the receiver.
The S.I.R. rails never grew on me. I prefer the DD Lite rail.
when rails were still new… I liked the SIR very much but… no money that time. coudn’t even afford a decent AR.
but now that I had the money to buy an AR, I opted for the DD Lite Rail. which is about the same price as the SIR but… SIR is just sooo. heavy.
the guy just wants a second opinion. obviously he doesn’t want to make a very bad choice. If you like it that much go for it. it doesn’t look bad.
Ok I am a bit confused. From what I have seen the DD is almost the same weight as the rail I am looking at. Am I missing something? Nevermind on this part. I was looking at the wrong DD rail. I see the lite Carbine rail is just under 9 Oz.
And yeah guys I know that there are probably some better rails out there. That is why I wanted to know is there were good or not. I have 2 and 1/2 M4 and each is going to be a bit different. This just seemed like a way to make one stand out.
Years ago before I really got into ARs I always loved the look of a carbine with the ARMS 45 SIR. A few years ago I found one at a steal of a price and built a carbine around it. ![]()

Damn that looks good. I may have to do mine in a similar duracoat pattern.
As long as they are not Junk I am going with it.
Nope, they aren’t junk ![]()
Just not the “latest” thing on the market.
I would pass on the SIR. The VLTOR CAS-V is FAR superior.
I cannot think of anything that ARMS makes as “good stuff.”

Really? I was always under the impression that ARMS made good stuff. =(
If you don’t mind me asking what is wrong with their products? Out of spec? Breakage?
Picatinny arsenal is the originator.
The ARMS rails do not meet the M1913 spec making them “out of spec” as they are missing the shoulder.
C4
Who told you that? An ARMS employee or someone that is married to their gear?
The best things that ARMS make are they BUIS and ONE Aimpoint mount (in particular the #40L and #16A). Other than that, everything else is just “ok” and over priced.
Their stuff does break, the bottom of the SIR is PLASTIC and has WAY too many screws holding it together. KevinB should be along shortly to give us some horror stories. I will just leave you with a pic.

I also have the Vltor

My clients used to beg me for ARMS stuff. Of course most of what I sold was BUIS but there were a number of mounts, rings, etc that moved as well. I know the mid height Quick detach rings were probably our biggest seller next to #40 and #40Ls .
I am not trying to say I think you are wrong! Just that I was basing what I was saying on past experience with people.
U also see the CAS-V is a bit cheaper. I will look into that as well now.
And lots of people beg for Bushmaster ARs, BlackHawk Gear, Gerber Multi-Tools, and 3-Point Slings. If the client’s sole exposure of a category is a single source or item, of course that is all that they will know. It doesn’t make them stupid or bad people, just uninformed.
ARMS was good when there wasn’t anyone else on the market.
Times, how they are a changin’!
Still, I do not mean to imply that ARMS is an evil company or that attaching their products will induce ED and instant type 8 stoppages in your carbine, just that in most instances ARMS is pretty low down the list of items I personally want attached to any weapon I might need.
And when comparing rail weight don’t forget to include the weight of the slip ring and spring for those that do not require their removal. A good apples to apples comparison is the DD Omega 7.0 vs the ARMS #50C, as they both retain the slip ring.
Omega- 8 oz (complete). $259 (Link)
SIR- 14.5 oz (without rails). $369 (Link)
But something to think about-
DD Lite Rail 7.0- 8.5oz- however the unit replaces the slip ring, spring, and barrel nut. $279 (Link)
Just sayin’.
