I LOVE THIS RIFLE!!!

It likes SSA Match Kings the most and is WELL sub-moa with them. I’ve also had some success with Hornady 110 v-max rounds. The Remington stuff that I’ve tried you couldn’t pay me to try IN THIS RIFLE again, but I’ve heard that the first production stuff is OK. I have a deer control permit untill hunting season starts that allows me to shoot them anytime of the day or night that I see them in the tree nursury. To answer many people’s questions regarding fragmentation range with this newer round, I shot a doe at 200 yds with an SSA Matchking two nights ago and there wasn’t even a shoulder left, the exit wound was EASILY larger than a grapefruit. Last night I took two more one at about 30 yds and the other at about 60, both were taken with the Hornady V-MAX 110gr, the first taken at 30yds had NO EXIT WOUND, and the second, larger deer taken at 60 yds had an exit wound that was about 6-7 inches in diameter. All three deer were knocked on their back and did not get up at all. I am very pleased with the effectiveness.

This is the Matchking exit wound, sorry but no camera for the V_MAX shot.

PS I will post more when I can, I thought that this could be fairly informative to some, if it’s not, then thanks for looking at my gun porn anyway!

Heres a little video from this weekend:

very cool.

My 6.8 noveske is my truck gun and I am trying to decide what ammo to put in it for 2leg and 4 leg creatures.

Looks like the Vmax might be good for people, but the SSA matchkings and prohunters are much less $$$.

Well, I can’t speak for anyone else’s 6.8, but my groups shrank nearly to half with the SSA vs. the hornady. with the added benefit of extra velocity!!!

What is the length of that rail? I’ve been looking around for a source on 8.0s.

It’s a 7and 15/16" long KAC rail. AFAIK they are the ONLY company that makes this length rail and it was a royal bitch to find as most people don’t even know about them. A midlength rail would be too long as the SOPMOD flashhider comes about an inch back over the barrel from the shoulder. I thought that I would have to send the barrel back to be reprofiled to fit the SOPMOD because it comes back over the gas block area where a larue gasblock would normally cover, but the inner diameter of the SOPMOD was over .750" so no problems;) . The overall length with the suppressor mounted is right under 16".

Bought two more boxes of the Hornady 110gr V-max to use tonight. If I get a chance, I’ll post the pics of the shots. I’m hoping to get a couple of shots in the 250-300yd range. I’d like to know the fragmentation range of the 10.5" 6.8 barrel and I don’t believe that anyone has published publicly any of that information. I’m just guessing that I won’t be able to go much further than 300 yds.

Does anyone know what a good price on a chrono is??? I’d really like one, but don’t want to break the bank

damn that thing is purrty.

After seeing how much range I had with the thing, I decided to change the setup a bit. The IR laser and NV help a lot.

That is a sweet setup. Thank you for your posts.

I fixed the picture for you. Upside down was confusing me.

Here’s a group I just shot at 300 meters, almost 400yds. The shot on the right was a called flyer. Ammo was Hornady V-max, it would have been tighter if I had sand bags or a bipod.

I will try to get a picture of it later, but I was shooting cement blocks yesterday with Remington FMJ at 300 yards and it punched through the outside wall with a .270 sized hole and the exit on the other side of the first wall was about 4 inches in diameter. It barely touched the other side, the FMJ completely fragmented in the inside of the block, there were tiny peices of it all over the inside. While I understand that it was concrete and that it doesn’t simulate flesh at all, fragmentation like that at that range with FMJ is pretty impressive to me. I promise that as soon as I get a chance to shoot some more living targets at that range that I will give a full review.

Any more Pics?

Not of any kill shots, I’ve been having really bad luck lately due to 2 new guard dogs at the tree farm where we have the pest control permit. I obviously can’t use that rifle to hunt with anywhere else if I want to keep DNR happy. But the good thing is that we should start getting frost soon forcing the deer back on the property for a quick and easy meal. As promised, I will keep you updated.

If there is anything else you wanted to see, let me know.

Is there any scientific testing on the performance on 6.8 out of SBR length barrels? How much longer is the fragmentation range?
Thanks

That is a great looking rifle. I am thinking of building one just like that.
If you don’t mind me asking who built that upper? Also did you get the handgaurds directly from KAC?
Thanks

Beautiful rifle! It’s good to see how well the 6.8 performs out of a shor barrel like that - makes that offering from Noveske very tempting, I must say.

Thanks for the graphic pictures of the deer you plugged.

Yeah the 6.8 is pretty nice but the only turn off is the price of the ammo. Other than that it is nice.

I built the upper myself. The forend I got from Operation parts, I believe they have it listed as the KAC “too long” carbine FF RAS. It took a very long time for me to work out the parts build. I’m planning on building a copy of this upper in 5.56 with a SCAR-SD. It sould come in around 14" in OAL.

The concept of this rifle is to have a suppressed carbine that is the same length as an M4 with the can attached, while providing the same if not better range and knockdown ability. In my opinion, that goal was reached. This is the rifle I wish that I had in Iraq.

NickB,
I love your company, that is the buttstock that you guys sent me through Polite Society to T&E along with Mark’s buttstock. I will have to say that while I do love this stock, I miss the handling characteristics that the heavier M93 gave my rifle, will the UBR be about the same weight?
