Does the point of impact (and group) changes if you change magnifications?
–– 1. With a 1.1-4 SCOPE, I zeroed using IBZ with 4x at 50yards; is there actually a change in the point of impact if I dialed back to lower magnification – ex. 2x.
My group actually is bigger with the lowest setting (1.1) as I could see less of the target. but relatively still at same point.
–– 2. I just got a H1 Aimpoint RED DOT. I’m wearing glasses and the dot actually looks scattered, but is fine with other’s eyes. I had tested a friend’s EOtech with a 3xMag and saw how the magnifier improved the red-dot clarity.
I planned on getting a magnifier (3x, etc.) for the H1. Will zero be shifted when if I flip/remove the magnifier? Is it really significant?
For my tired eyes, I prefer bench zeroing and groupings using higher magnification; but I do like to stretch my ‘potentials’ at times…
Dialing to a lower mag also widens my field of view.
Nope - once the actual optic, the Aimpoint is zeroed - it’s zeroed. You can add/remove the optional parts, like magnifiers or nightvision devices, and it won’t change your optic’s zero a bit.
And as other’s have said, if you’re using a quality scope, it doesn’t matter what magnification it’s on, zero will be the same. What you said you did, zero off of a bench at max mag, that is the best way to do it. I like to lock my rifle into a shooting vise/rest, and line the crosshairs up on the target, this way all I have to do is pull the trigger, then, later on when I’m shooting in the field, if I miss, I know that I missed and it wasn’t because my zero was off. The reason you’re groups are larger at 1.1x is because you can’t get as “precise” on the bullseye as you can at 4x - nothing to do with zero, again IF it is a good scope… don’t try to rely on a Tasco keeping it’s zero when moving the power ring…
