Your Favorite Ammo?

Wondering what peoples ammo preferences are? Is there any Ammo you WONT use? As for me, I like Prvi a lot and I wont shoot wolf too filthy for me. Best, Dom.

favorite for what?

any brass cased fmj loaded to 5.56 pressure works for me. some are more accurate for me than others. my personal favorite is IMI m855. very accurate for what it is.

real deal loads that really turn me on are 5.56 loaded (loaded by winchester, federal, ssa or southwest ammo) 64gr nosler bsb. 70grtsx, and mk318

as far as brand loyalty goes, i kind of wish every load i liked was loaded by federal. not sure why. federal just makes me feel good. i trust them i guess.

I pretty much just shoot PMC in .223, 5.56, and 9mm. I’ve found it to be reliable, consistent, cheap, and suitably accurate. I get 2880 FPS with a standard deviation of 41 FPS out of my 16 inch Noveske.

I like fed xm193 to train, and Hornady TAP for sd.

My favorite ammo for general purpose use (practice, training, etc.) is IMI XM193 or XM855. Unfortunately, it has been unavailable for quite some time, with rumors of it not coming back for sale.

Otherwise, I use just about any brand of 5.56 NATO ammo.

Cheapest brass cased I can find for training. Mk 262 MOD 1 for SD/HD/SHTF.

ETA: Speer Gold Dot 124gr for the pistola.

Privi m193 for my AR’s.

Golden Tiger for the AK.

Winchester for my Glocks, M&P, and Kel-Tec 2K plinking.

Speer Gold-Dot for home defense and CC.

Federal Premium 168gr Sierra MatchKing BTHP for precision .308.

Not sure if this counts, but my Favorite is MY OWN !!! I reload “thousands” of Rd’s a year,99% 55 Grn FMJ in LC/Privi/PMC brass,& then any good brass I find/buy,etc !!! Wolf is probably my next favorite, works great in both my rifles, best thing about Wolf/Steel Cased ammo is ya don’t have to chase your brass !!
Handgun,230 grn Cast bullet,any quality 45 ACP brass I can get !
Handgun #2 124 Grn cast truncated cone bullets in 9mm !! I shoot very little factory ammo,I have thousands of rds in my 3 main calibers stashed, but shoot reloads,99.9% of the time !!

Same here - the ammo I build. As for store bought stuff XM193, some IMI 193- wish I would have bought more. Some PMC- really like this brass for reloads. Some AE, Federal 223.

Of course it counts. Handloads are about all I shoot.

Load my own.

I don’t really like any of the above ammos… For practice the only two I’d use is AE223 and PMC Bronze.

Q3131a1 is good, but it’s never priced good.

Mk 262 is almost acceptable except that it’s made by Black Hills. Helen Keller could put ammo together nicer than those jokers.

If I had to buy a primo, it’d be Federal GMM Smks in 69 or 77 grain.

M855 “green tip” for training as it serves a dual purpose of being cheap enough to buy for training but also good enough to be a back up SHTF/HD round in a pinch.

Black Hills, Barnes 50g TSX for urban area where I live as it’s a great short range, barrier blind load. Also have lots of ASYM 70g Barnes TSX rounds for longer range and hunting.

Did I miss something? I always understood that Black Hills was one of the best ammo manufacturers in the biz?

That’s the sad state of the quality of currently available ammo. They use good bullets that shoot pretty well despite there mediocre product.

Narrowing your question might give you more useful responses, OP. That being said, my first choice of manufacturers is Black Hills, new, reman, and Gold lines. Specific loads chosen according to purpose.

I use a bunch of mil and various ATK products as well, particularly AE, Speer Lawman, and Speer Gold dot lines. Most of these are provided by others. All shotgun ammo is Federal LE. Very little Winchester or Remington. I’ll use a few other loads here and there for experiments and comparisons.

Pretty much all military ammo is shit so I stick with loading my own or using Wolf. Wolf will do pretty much everything M193 copies will do for practice all at a much lower cost.

OK Thank you for the responses. I should have asked what ammo for your M4 or AR. I try to buy American products as much has possible. But I do like Prvi for the price. The LC stuff makes me a bit nervous as I have read many posts on other sites that you can get a good batch or a really bad batch i.e. dented casings crooked primers etc. I also like Federal AE. I am “one of those guys” that wont shoot steel ammo, I dont have a specific reason. I just trust brass not to potentially damage my extractor unnecessarily.

After playing with steel cased and even reloading it a little just for the research value… I’d never use much more than a handful of that shit here or there for testing.

The cases just DO NOT behave like real brass… they don’t have the bounce back that brass does… it’s just wrong.

I have shot all kinds of ammo, as far as my good to stuff I like PMC for .223 and 5.56. I’ve just had very good luck with PMC when it comes to that. As far as pistol ammo I like S&B for training while for SD I run Winchester Ranger and Golden Saber.

As far as steel cased ammo, I have run Hornady Steel Match with good results and have even find it to be a good practice loading when I don’t feel like picking up my brass and have even been impressed with the accuracy of the loading. It has really proven that steel cased ammo can be loaded accurately to me. I have also run some Brown bear a while back and it worked for what it was but god was it filthy and I never got great groups out of it, and I don’t have much use to run it or Wolf since the difference in price for training ammo to me doesn’t justify the fact it isn’t what I would want to press into SD service when compared to M193 or M855 and since I can either reload the brass or sell it locally the cost savings with steel is either pennies it is even more expensive at the end if I am selling all of the brass.

The only loadings that I will not shoot unless it is an emergency and no other option are reloads of unknown providence. I was recently given over 200 rounds of .45 ACP lead round nose reloads from a guy I know. They are sitting in my safe with me wondering what the hell I am going to do with them since I have no idea what they were loaded to or for. I am likely going to break them down for components with a friend and perhaps reload them to specs that I trust.

5.56 PMC XTAC-- XP193 and M855. Immaculate brass; never had a dud and cheaper than Federal. If I can’t get that, I go to the comparable Federal/AE variety.
