XS Sights Ar front post

Just got a DDm4 V7 last week and found some used Samson (spelling) flip ups.

Had a chance to finally shoot the rifle on Monday at am indoor range.

The rifle was great but poor lighting and an astigmatism I could quite see the black post.

Thinking about just painting the post …

However my Glocks wear Big Dot sights and I love these. Especially with my bad eyes that can’t focus in at arm length or just past.

Anyone use the AR Big Dot? I’ve got a scope for hunting but want to run irons for home defense and inside 50. I like the simplicity of just putting that lollipop on the target and going pew pew pew.

Thanks!

I run a tritium FSP after shooting irons during dusk dawn conditions but I have no experience with a big dot on an AR. I wouldn’t want to give up that much precision with a rifle if the XS sight is as large as they are on pistols. I’m already slightly compromising mid range precision with a tritium FSP IMO.

They also have their standard dot too… Might go that route. The Big Dot is huge on the pistol. But I have hit soup cans at 50 yards with my 23C.

I have poor corrected vision and use the XS White Stripe .100 wide front post with good success.

ETA: The tritium vial on the Big Dots is the same size used on handguns, so even at carbine length sight radius its almost invisible.

I’m in the same boat, old eyes and astigmatism. I used a couple of drops of Testor’s model paint, the international orange color, on the front post. Works well for me, the little bottle of paint was only a couple of bucks. I used a q-tip to apply a tiny bit at a time.

I’ve got some OPI mail polish at home I use for my gun engravings. That will help hopefully until I can drop 50 on a new post.

I have one on a Glock 19 and like it.

I had one on a AK and hated it. I use the front sight ring on an AK for close range, and the front post for longer ranges. The big dot on the rifle did nothing the ring didn’t do but took away the finer aiming the post provided.

Now if the big dot is just being used for it’s tritium I can understand that I suppose. (Thought a mounted light or RDS would be much better)

For very close ranges just get the front sight wings in front of the rear aperture.

A red dot will really help you. If you can go down that road, I’d say do it, instead of messing with pricey irons that likely won’t help your acquisition/tracking much, if at all.

More often than not, folks with an astigmatism see red dots as commas or amoebas. It helps to dial the brightness down as far as possible, but it can still be distracting.

I’ve heard that as well. Shape distortion. But the few guys that have tried mine find it ‘easier to focus on’

I get a bit of a coma (looks like a comet) with red dots, but it’s consistent and does not impede their use for me at all. Everyone is different, but before people with known astigmatism think they won’t like a red dot, they really should try it for themselves.

My favorite is the T1/H1 hands down.

I use an Aimpoint PRO and I am used to the distortion. It works well for me at CQB distances, as I said, turning down the brightness helps. For me the comma only becomes distracting at longer distances, a magnifier eliminates much of the distortion though. Definite for me, anything with an illuminated reticle busier than a simple dot is all but useless.

I’m looking at a red dot for later down the road.
But $60 for an XS post vs $400 for a solid red dot fits my budget better.
I looked at the Vortex and I’m a huge fan of the brand, but they all have a blueish tint.
