Will I overheat the barrel?

I have a Colt Match Target 16" lightweight. I added an Eotech 552 which is great and co-witnesses with the iron sights. Here is the question. I added a rail to the factory round handguard to mount the Eotech. I realize that between the mounting screws for the rail and sight, the top vent holes are covered. The bottom holes are clear. Will this arrangement damage the barrel by reducing cooling? Do I need to replace the handguard? I am usually target shooting and plinking and not rapid fire shooting. Thanks for advice.

Your fine.

you would have to try a lot harder than that to damage the bbl.

oh, and adding any kind of optic to a plastic handguard is bad juju. no way in hell that thing is going to retain zero. if you want to mount an optic get a gooseneck mount for your carry handle.

thanks for the feedback. I tried two different gooseneck mounts for my Colt and could not get a cowitness with either. With the rail mount I have the red dot sitting right on top of the front sight. I can either look over the rear siight or through it. I will have to see if I can hold a zero. Thanks again

the cooley gooseneck mount is the one that works with the EO.

I skipped the part about you mounting a EOtech to the rail. Hilary is correct in what he said.

isn’t Hillary always right?
