Hello all,
I have been looking around quite a bit and was wondering if any of you out there know of any company who makes ported barrels, specifically 16 inch ones. The reason being is I live in New York and the whole pin and weld thing is a big gray area. I really want a brake on my ar, so I plan on doing a new upper with a barrel that has an integral brake/ported barrel.
Thank you for the help in advance. Great site here.
No, pinning and welding is the ACCEPTED standard for New York.
A ported barrel is a poor choice, given your many other options. If you are that concerned about non-issues, I suggest that you NOT get an AR-style rifle to begin with.
I already own one. Was looking to do a higher quality upper. Thanks for the response. FYI there is no where in the NYS code that states pinning and welding is accepted. It is accepted by the ATF and there is written proof for that. However for New York there is nothing in writing for pinning and welding.
Why do you need a brake? I honestly see no need for a brake with 5.56 and a 16" barrel…
