Follow this link http://www.cpwsa.com/cases%20and%20bags.htm and look at the pics of the 5.11 rifle case. Which pic show’s the case’s color most accurately?
It should be noted that unless both your monitor and the monitor of other viewers are professionally calibrated to the same color standard/settings, the feedback will be of little value. As an example, the color of the background of m4carbine.net is an olive drab here on my work monitor, but at home it appears FDE.
I should also mention that the camera the picture was taken with, color of ambient lighting and flash all throw that off too.
Best bet would be to compare it to a physical item that you and others would have, like an FDE magpul stock or something.
The top one. I had one just like it and the top one is closer. It has just a hint of orangishness to it.
My work monitor is way off. My monitor at home is calibrated.
The one “fde” 5.11/vtac mag pouch I have has a color much closer to the top picture.
When dealing with cordura, keep in mind how the light source will affect the color that reaches your brain.
I have some old TAG gear in OD that looks brown under daylight/blue skies, and green with artificial light.
Well, I’ve got my answer about the color, and I’ve got to say that I don’t really care for it. Too gold. Of course the bigger issue with this case for me, now that it’s in the house, is whether it makes a bit of sense for a guy like me to carry his rifle around in a case like this. Down in Texas someone watching me might say I’m “all hat and no cattle.” Seriously, this case is way beyond overkill for a school teacher who likes to shoot at Dr Pepper cans on the weekends. It’s a case for someone who takes his rifle to work (not exactly PC for a schoolteacher these days!).

what else would you carry your AR in?
Probably just wrap it in a horse blanket and toss it behind the seat of the truck.
Like yugo308 said - the top one looks closest. I have one; looks better IRL…
Bill–
I have the same case and think its great. Like you, I’m no professional shooter, but for me I don’t care what other people think of my case or me using it to carry my M4. It’s rugged, durable and stores my weapon just fine.
I was a bit disappointed in the color at first, seems more like a coyote brown than FDE, but doesn’t matter in the end, I still like it. I just hope you didn’t buy your case from that site you linked to. Way overpriced.
BTW, I like your carbine, mine is almost the same.
Happy and safe shooting! ![]()
well, I don’t understand the concept of receiving too much value for your money. I have a double in 36" and yes it’s overbuilt for just going to and fro but it’s outstanding for the price.
I’m sure with reasonable use, it should last for practically forever while doing a superior job of protecting your firearm.
My issue was whether it made sense to buy a lifted Ford F350 4x4 if my main use for it is running to the 7-11 now and then to buy a gallon of milk.
(I bought the case on closeout for $70.00.)
My philosophy is this: The nice BCM M4 you have sitting in that 5.11 case is probably overkill too, correct? Well then, 'tis better to have more than you need and not use it than to not have enough when you really need it.
Don’t sweat it. You got a nice piece of kit there. Enjoy! ![]()
Good point. I guess it comes down my finding it easier to justify owning an overkill hammer than justifying an overkill case for the hammer.
(I just got this picture in my mind of a Pelican-type case made specially for carrying a hammer around–waterproof, shockproof, vapor barrier protects your hammer from harmful gases and solvents, etc.) ![]()
I’m sure I’ll get over it. I need to remind myself of all the guys in my neighborhood who drive Hummers to the golf course and to Rotary meetings but never into the wilderness. I guess my BCM M4 in a 5.11 case is exactly like my weathier neighbors’ Hummers, even if on a smaller scale.
oh no, I knew what you meant. I just figured you would figure out you were “worth it”… ![]()
