Which barrel for a Noveske VTAC

I’m seriously looking at buying a Noveske VTAC upper in the near future. The only reason I haven’t ordered it yet is because I can’t make up my mind between the two barrel options:

  1. 14.5" Cold Hammer Forged Barrel, 1 in 7" twist, 5.56mm
–Made of Mil Spec M249 Machine Gun barrel steel, with heavy M249 Chrome Lining,
(appx. 2 times as thick as an M4 or M16)
    –Extended Feed Ramps
    –Mil Spec Phosphate finish
–Same weight as M4 barrel, 1 lb, 9 oz, but improved contour for maximum
    rigidity, no M203 notch
    –MP HP tested barrel

  2. Noveske 16.1" Recon 5.56mm stainless barrel, 1 in 7" twist
    –Extended feed ramps

I will will be my primary ‘go-to’ rifle for range days and carbine courses. I’d also like it to be accurate for range days when I feel like shooting from the bench out to about 100m or so. I’ve always heard great things about Noveske’s stainless steel barrels, but on the other hand the chrome lining would be great for classes and the ever popular zombie invasion scenario.

Any input?

I’d go with the 14.5" chrome lined barrel as a go to & training gun.

The stainless is nice but really at home better on rifle where you’re looking for best accuracy and likely using a highly magnified scope.

Yea, I think I’m leaning in the 14" chromed direction. I’ll probably call Noveske about this next week, but does anyone know what kind of MOA accuracy I can expect from the 14.5"?

The ideal option would be the 16" Mid-length N4 bbl, but they don’t offer the VTAC in that configuration.

Yea, I just order my Noveske14.5 VTAC upper setup. Delivery time is around 4 to 6 weeks. I was going to put the KX3 flash hider, but John suggested for the current setup with the YHM flash hider.

Can’t wait to get the upper and put it through it’s paces.
