While I agree with the OP regarding the fact that the BCM comp doesn’t do all that much more than an A2 in terms of recoil reduction, I have found that the BCM comp produces much less painful blast than most comps ive tried. Is that not the experience of others? I feel like the bcm comp is fairly quiet? no?

I’d brush up on technique first. 223 really does have minimal recoil especially on the bench so with proper technique you should be able to see your hits.

Thats great to hear … I think I have decided to go with the AFAB for my gun and needs I am looking to achieve with a new brake.

Seems as if the new AFAB (updated non-mini version) is better the original AFAB Mini as they took some leanred EFAB designs and implemented it on the AFAB.

I have contact Precision Armament to ask questions and get part number info for the new and old AFAB (new AFAB part# is A04424 … old AFAB Mini is A04422).

I just wanted to get more info from them and advice and also make sure I get the correct brake when I order from Brownells.

Thanks for the reply and glad you like the AFAB you have, I am hoping it helps out a touch with recoil and muzzle rise control on my 16" BMC Middy.

I don’t think you are going to find a muzzle device that is both less concussive and better at recoil management than the BCM comp. The Seekins ATC, Dynamic Resistance comp and Carbon Arms Gas Hog probably have the best recoil mitigation and least muzzle rise without excessive blast, but they are at least as loud as the BCM. The linear comps will direct the noise away from you but won’t help a whole lot with the reticle dance.

So your saying this Precision Armament AFAB will not be any better at recoil or muzzle rise then my current BCM Mod0 Comp.???

Wrong. Shot a BCM comp back to back with a KAC MAMS and the EFAB. Both the MAMS and EFAB are noticeably better in both categories.

So you would say for my needs of wanting to reduce recoil and muzzle rise As Much As Possible (with a brake not being loud of course) that if I have a BCM Mod-0 Compensator currently … would the new AFAB be a significant upgrade and provide me that added reduction I am looking for and be worth the $135 price tag??? (brake and washer kit)

Muzzle devices like the MAMS can work very well, however they cannot correct a condition that is attributed to things outside the muzzle uncorking push. I would tend to recommend that the OP makes sure sure that the action is properly buffered for it’s intended use first. I would tend to recommend other possible additions after that, like a properly weighted A5 that may help in this area. Many have gone the way of a moderator, with a properly gassed barrel, with a properly weighted A5 to get the results they desired. That obviously doesn’t mean all of them, but sometimes it is for the balance to satisfy issues like the OP seems to have.
A simple muzzle device swap may or may not help the OP, but may be good enough. Sometimes going deeper is needed, to satisfy the issue.

I just got an SLR Synergy Comp and it seems to have a reasonable compromise of recoil and sound. My comparison is a pre-ban A2 with a bird cage. It didn’t have much felt recoil at all (of course, that was my first experience with AR’s and the no, or very little recoil thing was a novelty to me, coming from bolt guns), but it seemed to be way, way louder.

Has any one had any experience with the Surefire Warcomp yet ? Curious how it rates in terms of muzzle climb compared to the other offerings mentioned in this thread. I know it’s supposed to primarily be a flash hider but the porting looks rather interesting.

How would you compare the muzzle rise control of this device compared to others you have tried ? The videos showcase its excellent flash hider attributes but I would be interested in your feedback about muzzle movement in comparison to other devices you’ve used.

So far my two favorite devices have been the MAMS which I still use and the pws fsc556.

I have not used a MAMS, but I have used an FSC556. The FSC mitigates rearward movement a bit more, but it’s VERY blasty compared to the Warcomp. Compared to the bare muzzle, it was notable. It mainly keeps the gun flatter, not necessarily reduces kick. However, a more linear recoil impulse is typically perceived to be lesser, so it FEELS like it kicks a bit less. This, along with my Vltor A5 really makes the rifle shoot flat.

However, typically people will buy what works with their suppressor. KAC cans go on MAMS, AAC cans can go on Specwar mounts I think?, and SF cans go on SF mounts, etc.

I started this thread … and after much research and info I decided on the Precision Armament AFAB muzzle brake (new version) … along with the PA Accu-washer system. (installed on a BCM 16" ELW Barrel)

Looks Amazing … hopefully the reduction in muzzle rise and recoil are equally as amazing at the range next time out and be as quit as many say it is compared to open port brakes.

None . They’re all loud based on how they work: directing gas sideways and up to stabilize the muzle.

Maybe a moderator is better suited to those intended uses then other muzzle devices for its application.

  3. BattleComp (pushed the muzzle down for me, below POA, on several different rifles… hated it)

  5. BCM Comp Mod1
  6. A2 Flash Hider

See the trend there? What do I now use? A Daniel Defense A2 Flash Hider. With a 16" ILGS and a VLTOR A5, I honestly don’t need a Brake/Comp and can still shoot super fast and flat… all while enjoying almost nil Flash in LowLight/NoLight
