Whats is the best Muzzle Brake / Comp available that is NOT Crazy Loud???

So on my AR I have the basic BCM M0d) that came with my upper … great rifle, accurate as hell and when I shoot looking through the scope I get just a bit more recoil and jump then I like cause I cannot see my hits on targets after I shoot.

I know I can buy a straight muzzle brake and that all goes away and it’s like shooting a .22 almost … I could see every hit on target at that point.

BUT I shoot a lot at the range and with family and really I hate the “loudness” of the BCM compensator I have now … and from what I read a muzzle brake (was looking at the Lantac Dragon) is like going from a comfortable loud to an absolute painful loud (where my plugs are no longer good and I need to wear muffs with them as well when outdoors).

I do not want to hear that Insane loud shot not do the guys sitting on the bench next to me at the range or with friends while shooting.

SOO … I want to control recoil as much as possible and keep my shot on target the best I can when staring down a scope BUT do not want the Crazy loud addition that a muzzle brake brings (I am totally fine with a bit more noise no doubt, but not tons more you know) … What should I be looking at> Whats better then what I have to give me the extra control I seek without tons more noise???

I bought a new 10" bullseye steel target … has a 4" steel target behind the 10" with a 3" hole in the middle … when I hit the 3" bullseye It pops up for a second but with the recoil my scope lost sight of the steel for a second and I could never tell if I hit it or not … would love to reduce that felt recoil and flip if possible … just don’t want to blow out the hearing of myself and everyone near me either.

Thanks so much for all the help and suggestions guys!

KAC Mams, or the Precision Armament EFAB. Break out your wallet though.

EFAB shows flash hider / muzzle brake

It also is good for noise as well? (Not concerned at all with flash just noise)

Install a linear compensator (Simple Threaded Device, Black River Tactical, Levang, Kies Blast Master)

Do push ups and pull ups.

Pull butt of ar into your shoulder pocket/pectoral muscle.

Unless you’re shooting select fire or very rapid semi, there is no need for either a brake or a comp for 5.56.

I am in love with my surefire warcomp.

Here are a few videos I took:

Weapon/ammo used in all videos: 16.1" DDM4 with mid-length gas system, and VLTOR A5 system using standard un-marked Vltor buffer and Vltor standard spring. PMC XTAC M193

Vip3r beat me to it: PA EFAB. Forget about any two-port brake (big openings on the side).

Anyone know if the new AFAB-556 (2nd Gen) is as good as the EFAB if not better???

Seems the AFAB mini was first then improved upon with the EFAB and now their is a new generation AFAB saying they learned more from the EFAB and now are introducing the upgraded AFAB-556.

And cheaper of course is why I ask along with it actually looking better as well.

I got to shoot Frank Proctor’s rifle a couple months ago with his new muzzle device on it. I was very impressed with the recoil reduction. It didn’t seem crazy loud either.

Also what about the Griffin Armament M4SD II Flash Comp? Seems highly comparable to the PA AFAB/EFAB Bake but under 100 bucks with some damn good reviews.

Forum member here, BufordTJustice, has done some testing on the Precision Armament EFAB. According to his posts it was no louder than your typical A2 flash hider equipped AR. The general informed consensus is that it gives the best balance of performance (muzzle control and flash control) without the excessive muzzle blast and pressure. KAC MAMS may perform a little better than the EFAB but at a higher price point.

I’m gonna guess that the EFAB works a little better due to the design of the small ports is uses. Each port is three small holes converging to one hole inside the main bore, so that each one acts as a small flash hider unto itself. There are section images of each on PA’s webpage. PA also does not recommend the AFAB 5.56 on barrels shorter than 14.5" FWIW.

Ya for me using a 16" Middy BCM barrel I am good there and one reason why I would think the AFAB is all I need … Plus I have ZERO need for the flash suppression aspect of the brake, that for me means nothing at all … My only thing I want is reduced felt recoil and muzzle rise (to help keep my scope sight picture) without the blast of a standard open side port muzzle brake … That’s It, nothing more … so the added flash suppression the EFAB yields me really means nothing to me to be honest if thats the only benefit between the two really (other then the EFEB having the benefit of being larger but thats due to it being meant for SBR’s and in my case does not apply).

And it seems the AFAB is made for barrels like the 16-18" sizes.

I’m just thinking for my gun and needs the new AFAB should be more then enough for my specific criteria in what I’m looking to gain from a new brake.

I must be so far out of the muzzle game. Because I thought everyone would write Battlecomp. ??

I am going to have to check these new one s out.

For the under $100 market it’s IMO the best device, and it’s compatible with griffin’s excellent suppressors.

I’ve shot them side by side and they’re in different leagues. The EFAB has more recoil reduction, less blast, and less flash. It does everything better, but it does cost more.

And with more flash.

Nobody would fault you. Precision Armament has really been advancing the science of flash and blast reduction. The EFAB also creates virtually ZERO additional gas system pressure, unlike the BC where you could move up a buffer weight or two if you came from an open baffle brake or a pure flash hider.

I had a Flash Comp on a 16" middy. I replaced it with the A2 bird cage because I noticed there was much more concussion than my new 11.5" with A2.

I have both a Precision Armament EFAB and and AFAB, and I think I like the AFAB better. One of the best muzzle devices I’ve used, in terms of flash and comp properties.

It was fine when it first hit the market, but has been completely surpassed by better designs.
