being the best parent in the world is not going to change what is happening at the schools and this has happened over the years the progressives have taken over the education system
with kids 6 and 11 that we pulled out of a very high rated school district because of the stuff that was being taught in grade 1 and things that we heard and saw happening very eye opening scary
maybe some of those now adults are the product of the progressives also ! so it did start there and it ends there and yes there are instances where spoiled un disciplined kids are the fault but once again your good kids get wrapped up in it and cant do much about it so to say its the lawyers and parents IMHO is like saying he deserved to get beat up by the bully
but I will disagree that its the parents and the lawyers that has caused the decay of school ! its the progressives %100
same reason you have kids being told to wear rainbow shirts to support gays and some kids dont want to so they wear chik-fil-a tshirts and get in trouble ! but if it was support our 2nd amendment day the gays would get a pass well we know they would never support something like that anyway !

so many examples and all are based on the school doing things and the parents are so far out of it
when parents do speak up at some school board meetings these days sadly some are now arrested !
I do indeed have kids. Three grown children who are products of public schools all over the country (as well as DoD schools abroad). And FWIW I’ve been a teacher since retiring from the Army in 2010.
You and I clearly have different experiences, but I can tell you that the school I work with isn’t populated by progressives. Not by a long shot. Hell, we still have prayers before ball games. Yet we, too, have more than our fair share of problems.
After retiring from the military I did the “Troops to Teachers” program for a bit less than a year.
My experience and the reason I left to pursue another occupation was because I couldn’t stand to associate with or even sit down long enough to eat my lunch in a room full of leftists.
Being told that 29K a year was after all “enough money” because after all I was getting a retirement check from the Army might have had a bit to do with it also.
So broad brush or not even in a .mil community there are plenty of them out there and indoctrinating as fast as they can from the front of a classroom.

so really you cant say I paint with a broad brush or I could say you paint with a tiny one from only your kids and school ? and thats not fair to either of us !
sadly the majority of all I know from my group again are going the wrong way since your kids are grown and not in school ? maybe things have changed since then ?

Home schooling is the way to go - if you’re up to it, etc.
Your children will be much better educated, not have to rub elbows with bullies, you won’t have to worry about drugs being offered, or have them indoctrinated into leftist crapola.
also some great homeschool groups out there !
our group has about 200 families get together at least once a week along with other activities such as camping etc…
amazing field trips the kids get to go on etc…
Back around 1983 there was a “report” on public schooling to the effect that if a system such as we have had been imposed on us by a foreign power, it would be considered an act of war.
That rang true then, and it’s a helluva lot worse today.
What I cannot understand is that most churches today (which claim to promote moral behavior) will not face the fact that public schools aggressively attack the idea of any standards at all. Apparently “doublethink” is alive and well.
You CAN raise properly adjusted kids in a public school today…however it will require your constant attention. Most parents are not up to countering the army of garbage that their kids will absorb. To be there to tell them that what they were told in class is garbage. Most just look the other way and I am always surprised at how many parents know damn little about what their kids are being taught.
With my own daughter, I have tried to filter out the BS and fortunately, we have had very little in our public school system. Our high school even has a Christmas tree up in December. Imagine that! So I don’t think our system is as bad as other parts of the country. Nobody here is going to be told not to wear a shirt with the US flag or some nonsense like that.
Funny thing is that at age 16, my daughter comes to me with some PC crap she gets from school and asks me, “dad…this is just fee good crap…isn’t it?” It is as if she now has a nose for BS, after me drilling it into her over the years.
I don’t want my kid being home schooled…sorry. She needs to learn how to deal with people…all sorts of people. She needs to deal with a bully or some other morons and learn how people operate. How to deal with aggressive people, dishonest people and how to pick out the good ones to be friends with. I don’t think it would do my kid any good to lock her away from all the others and only have her be around those that look like her and think like her. That is NOT the real world…sorry.
typical reply kids are kids and we get in groups all the time deal with kids all the time in many forms and ways from sports to just going to the park and in school functions etc…
homeschool kids are coming out with a better education as surveys polls and exams are now showing !
in AZ there are almost as many kids in homeschool as private and charter schools together now !
so my kids deal with those other kids and know how to deal with them its not like you keep them locked up and isolated hahahahhahahha

If we home schooled…my daughter would have missed out on marching band and the tennis team. Two organizations in which she gets to learn and get in with groups of like minded kids that are interested in academics and not bullying and spray painting everything in sight.
(this is Texas…high school without Friday night football would have been really sad…LOL)
Our district is actually rated very well as is the high school - one huge reason we bought the home where we did and don’t live in the inner city.
I was the product of this school system and a state university and I somehow got an education and started a business and am not a drag on society because of my terrible public school upbringing. LOL
Public school does not HAVE to be a bed of mediocrity, drugs, bullying and despair for kids. Choosing the right school district and being involved with your kids can change everything. I am not ready to throw in the towel and withdraw from all public schools yet.
My wife is an itinerant teacher, she has visually impaired kids in almost every school in our district. This is spot on:

But I’ll go one further, IMO the school’s Principal is one of the most important keys, more so than the district. In our case my youngest daughter was having issues at one grade school, the deal my wife and I have is I take care of interactions with administration regarding our kids. After having Miss Prissy Kitty tell me ‘Well, just because Txxxx says she is being bullied doesn’t mean she really is’ Wrong answer. I had already talked to my daughter’s friends and they had absolutely corroborated her stories of the boy who was poking her with pencils and throwing her down at recess. Long story short, we moved our daughters to what my wife said was the best school in the district, although it was one of the poorest in terms of the socioeconomics of the kids attending. My daughters both thrived, it was a 100% turnaround, my youngest was just starting to swim competitively, her new teacher came to my daughter’s swim meet, on a Saturday, the first week my daughter was in her class. The whole building was like that. Kids graduating high school who had attended the school would come back and talk to the kids at their ‘Third Friday’ assemblies and encourage the younger kids, retired volunteers would be in every day to listen to kids read and eat lunch with them.
It all came down to leadership and vision, emanating from the Principal. Changing schools was the best thing that happened to my youngest daughter.
one thing kids who homeschool can join in school activities like band and sports like tennis team etc…
now the funny thing is some kids who do this say that the school kids don’t like home school kids because they are not part of the group ! kinda ironic in a way that sadly they do learn that and are not always so well adjusted to others they dont know which is a huge part of life not always the case but does happen

but sadly schools and education are becoming worse
and agree all parents should be involved in there kids big time
but proof its bad ! the point one has to move to a new home or area or even out of state or drive to a better one etc… as some have done to get into a better school district is telling that the system is failing !
if the public school system was working you would not have to move to a better district or drive to one etc… !
this is about the school system not anyone persons kids either
I believe that since we are paying for these public school systems within our property taxes…it is OUR responsibility to find a good district, move into that district and get involved and MAKE it better. Then…like our district…it will grow and be a model for others. Ours is not perfect but tons better than other ISDs around us.
You can either take yourselves and your kids out of the public schools or find one that is not bad and help make it better. Hell…we are paying for this public school whether my kid goes here, goes to private religious school or is home schooled. I am not one to waste money.
Problem is that 90% of the parents do not want to do jack shit nor do they even go on “meet the teacher” night or have much to do with their kid’s school experience. Then…they wonder how their school got to be so bad and wonder how the morons that run it got into their offices.
