I’ve decided to make the switch over to 6.8spc as my new home defense AR. I recently sold all my .223/5.56 mags and ammo to fund this build and I’ll soon be selling a LMT 5.56 16" barrel and bolt as I’ll no longer need them. I’m wanting to put a 16" 6.8spc WOA barrel/bolt combo together with the LMT receiver. What do I have to look out for? A few questions:
-
Can I pull the gas block off and replace it onto the new barrel as long as the WOA barrel is ported in carbine length?
-
Will the BC accept a new 6.8 bolt or do I need a complete BCG?
-
Are all barrel nuts for 6.8/6.5/5.56/etc. the same?
Just wanting to learn more about the AR platform now. Lowers are easy to build, and I have a DPMS armorer’s wrench for whenever I decide to disassemble the LMT upper, but I know I’ll need a torque wrench for the new barrel as it must be torqued to 30-40ft lbs from what I’ve seen on Brownells videos. Any other help is greatly appreciated as this will be my first major AR modification. Thanks so much everyone and God bless.
Added: 200rds fired thru this setup. I really don’t want any 5.56 ammo because good Hornady TAP 75gr SD ammo is nearly $1/rd and so is 6.8----I’d rather have 110-120gr rather than 75gr as a HD/hunting weapon. There isn’t anything worn out on this setup, so why buy something else when I’m not using the 5.56 upper at all?
