Wanting 300blackout ?

Seeing that there is a known and set variable (velocity) being the key point of suppression for subsonic use a longer barrel would provide no advantage. I would say 8-10 inches would be optimal, for me I’m going with an AAC upper in 9 inches and I plan on shooting it out and replacing it possibly with a noveske 8 inch barrel. I really like the KAC rail.

The 6.8 is the second most popular AR15 cartridge and the 300 has no where near the sales or companies supporting it in rifles or ammo.

Well a barrel is just a barrel, an upper assembly is a complete assembly that the customer may or may not be able to attach to his lower assembly.

Shooting out that AAC barrel will take a long time. It is nitrided 4150 steel. I have 58 proof rounds on mine, and there are 18,000 rounds on some others - that still headspace about the same as when they were new.

As for barrel length - 6 to 9 inch range I would say. All will have a pistol length gas port.

I hope you consider shooting full power ammo though.

I take very good care of my stuff but I use it too, my lwrc’s barrel is toast now after an excess of 10k. I don’t expect that to be an issue with a blackout though due to the round itself. Barrels below 8 inchs are simply lewd in my opinion however, to each his own.

The larger bore and relatively small powder charge means 300 BLK is going to have very good barrel life.

RSliver: I know it would be a PITA, but, could you provide a list of gun stores in the LA/ Orange County area that are carrying the 300 blackout ammo? I have tried all of my usual sources and they just look at me like I have a third eye. I want to buy just single box of 300 blackout to show a friend who reloads. He uses .223 brass for his .221 T/C contender and I am trying to get him to load me some 7.62 rounds. He wants to see the rounds, he cant quite decide if he can do it. Every site that sells ammo on the net either won’t ship to Calif or doesn’t carry 300 blackout. Any help would be appreciated.

The ammo is distributed by places like AccuSport so I would not be able to know who is buying it. I know of a major gun company who has shot over 100,000 rounds and they did not even get the ammo from us so a lot of development is going on behind the scenes.

Was wondering what setup you like best and why? And what SBR setups are you running and how do you like the SBRs in this caliber compared to 5.56? For example was thinking that maybe you have a 10" 5.56 SBR and a 10" 300blk SBR.

Been reading up on this round and Im sold on it. And throughout the threads Ive read here on this round, I dont think I read of anyone who had 4 different setups already in 300blk (Lucky. Im jealous).

Im personally thinking of getting an 8" SBR in 300 blk, hoping that I could still maintain at least 100 yd effectiveness in that barrel length.

My fav is my general purpose 16" AAC. Each has a different purpose…9" SBR non suppressed CQB AR, 10" dedicated suppressed AR, 16" AAC gun hunting/general purpose AR. Rem 700 16" dedicated suppressed…stealthy applications.

Of the available offerings giving that you intend to shoot it with a can I’d suggest first the AAC 9 inch upper because I believe 9 inchs to be an optimal length for this cartridge plus the bang for the buck ie the KAC rail, The bore treatment, port size is optimized. A close second would be noveske which has some decent features too and a reputation for accuracy. Either way they are close enough in price for me to say personal preference. My AAC upper is very accurate and reliable, it’s one of those guns you handle everyday because it’s to interesting to put down.

Valuable thoughts and advices. I read your topic with great interest.

I’ve been following these .300 AAC blackout threads with a bit of detachment - but am gradually beginning to see the utility of such a concept, especially for an SBR application. The more I read about the cartridge, the more it makes sense, the more endangered my pocketbook becomes. :suicide2:

I’m starting to feel the same way. I sent out my Form 4’s for a Noveske 10.5" today and have been seriously thinking about getting a 300AAC BLK upper while I’m waiting for them to come back.

isnt it pointless to get this round unless you plan on getting a can to go with it

Not if you want to shoot heavier projectiles than a 5.56 , with better terminal and barrier performance.

Or you want good terminal performance from a VSBR.

Or you want a moderate range hunting AR.

The subsonic/suppressed thing is a small part of 300 BLK. 90% of it is just the ability to shoot 30 caliber ammo in an AR15 - with the power of 7.62x39, with a normal magazine and normal bolt, without losing capacity.

With Remington being a parent company of AAC, and the interchangeability of the bolt and other components I am hoping that they will make a barrel that will fit the ACR. That would seem to me to be the most foreseeable next weapon in line for the cartridge. Have you heard anything on the grapevine about this rsilvers?

Bushmaster has said they intend to do it.

Thanks rsilvers, I was thinking that would be a logical “next step” if it were. I like the idea of that weapon and the interchangeability of it. I just need to break down and get one now.
