Today, while at the rifle range, I saw something cool. A guy at the range had a Vortex Strikefire on his 308 AR. He let me look thru it. I have stuck with Mepro 21s for years now, because red dot scopes never look that clear to my eyes. It’s gotten worse as I get older… But…
I have NEVER seen a red dot sight with such a clear “dot” in my life - not with my eyes.
I know it’s not on the level of Trijicon and Aimpoints, but it was impressive.
Are you sure it wasn’t their Spitfire Prism sight? It has an etched reticle which is very crisp and clear.

No, it was the strike fire II he had.
I just bought the new Sparc AR. And it too has zero tint. Not as clear as eotech glass but clear nonetheless. I’m currently debating which I should buy next, the MRO or an Aimpoint Pro. Surprisingly both have way more blue tint than the Sparc AR.

I just bought an Aimpoint PRO T1 earlier in the week. I needed a low sitting optic for a PS90 carbine.
Reliability > Dot crispness
I have both the PRO and the original Strikefire. The dot is crisper on the Strikefire, or it blooms less with my astigmatism.
True, and my Aimpoint Comp M4s gives me both.
I just ordered one of these strikefire 2s from optics planet. I prefer the 30mm dots, but you can’t find any comp m3s in the US that are in decent condition.
I can’t wait to compare it to the Aimpoint PRO which I hate with a passion because the brightness settings suck rhinosaurus nuts.

Nice price. I think I’ll order one (or two) to try. I don’t quite share Marks hate of the PRO, but… the M3/M4 were way better.
Honestly I’m still running a few ACOGs as my “red dot”/optic so I need to try more options.
ETA: WTF is a rhinosaurus anyway. I am not familiar with that particular dinosaur. Anyone know what period that one was from? 
Sorry. I lose me spelling ability when I rant about something that pisses me off. And I overpaid for my Strikefire 2. Bummer on that. Side note: I ordered a BCM blem lower half from PSA Friday and monday the order got cancelled and I was refunded. I called and they said there was no note on the order to explain why. WEIRD.
The only minor thing I’ve seen on the Strikefire is that the dot has a digital flutter type of thing when shooting fast multiple targets. I’ve never seen an outright “this sight is bad” report on it.
I hope mine ships soon. I ended up moving the PRO over to my range blaster since my M3 and C3 are irreplaceable.
4 MOA dot? I’ve learned to prefer a 2 MOA dot, especially for 50 yards or more.
Have a 5 MOA on one gun, like it alot less.
Only Vortex optic I have is a 3x Prism, and it’s fantastic on a 16” gun.
I have a Comp C3 with a 2 moa dot and a Comp M3 with a 4 moa. I don’t really see a difference at this point (eyes age).
But yeah. I always prefer the smallest dot I can get. I got to see one of the 6 moa 407 comps, and that looked huge.
I use RDS on my rifle for point-and-click shooting, not long distance or precision aiming. That’s what magnified optics are for. 4moa is fine.
That said, if I’m shooting at such long distances that a 4moa dot covers the target I’ll use the bottom edge of the dot for a more precise aim and hold.
Agreed, my 2 primary “go-to’s" have 2.5x & 3x prisms, far better even at 100 yards than a dot.
But even with the guns with dots only, I value the precision I get with the smaller dot.
Indeed, dot is definitely for both eyes open, up and shoot fast, close-in.
The Strikefire showed up yesterday and I got it mounted to my Strybog sub gun. I don’t see any shortcomings yet with this sight. I’d prefer it used the same battery as aimpoint, but I have a batteries plus store 3 blocks away.
I hope to run it this weekend if we take the 110 plus heat beating.
Unless it’s a factory defect it will be fine. I’ve been using RDS from Primary Arms, Tasco, Burris, Trijicon and Aimpoint for decades. While they come in different forms and dot size, and some built to more robust standards, they’ve all given reliable service as intended.
