USAAMMO

Does anyone know anything about USAAMMO and its ammunition products? I’M considering the 62gr PSP loading for training and SHTF use once I burn up my supply of Wolf 55gr H/P. I’M waiting for a response from the company to see what bullet is used in this load.

Listed Spec’s,
62gr PSP velocity-3090 Energy-1357 B/C-0.238 Loaded with New Lake City Brass

While doing research I did find were 3 S&W AR’s had a Ka-Boom with a single lot of USAAMMO 55gr FMJ when USAMMO received a bad lot of Powder. But it appears USAAMMO recalled the affected lot and did replace the guns that were affected.

Also read some good results over on Sniperhide of their Mod’s shooting up a bunch of USAAMO ammo.

I simply do not shoot reloaded ammunition through my guns unless myself or somebody who I know (aka somebody I can punish ) reloaded them.

Seriously you are probably better off with Wolf than you are with junky reloads.

With the number of blown up ARs I have seen over the past few years I wouldn’t shoot anybodies reloads.

Maybe Black Hills or Stan Chen’s ammo, but I’d have to think about it.

Too much bad or mystery brass floating around and getting reloaded.

USAAMMO sells both new and re-manufactured ammunition and the one listed uses new never fired Lake City brass, first run bullets and powder. Nothing is supposed to be re-manufactured with this .223 62gr PSP loading. I have read threads that stated the soft points used by USAAMMO are made by Nosler but I do not have a conformation on that yet.

Called and talked to customer service of USA Ammo and had a trainee who had me on and off of hold several times while getting information I requested. I was told that the 62gr PSP .223 loading uses new commercial power, never fired brand new Lake City brass and first run Hornady bullets which were made especially for them. I did some net searches and came up wit nothing on a Hornady 62gr bullet so I call USA AMMO back and was told the information will be e-mailed to me asap.

I’M hoping that this is not a varmint built bullet but a control expansion round in the interlock family line. While this loading may not be and idea loading from DocGKR’s list it could be better then my Wolf 55gr Copper H/P that I use currently for training/SHTF use. I’ll post what bullet info they send me and second check the info with Hornady as to the bullets abilities.

FWIW, I’m hesitant to use their .223/5.56 ammo in my rifles, they’re a little too pricey for me to be playing around with potentially hot loads. I DO, however, use their reloaded 9mm exclusively in my Glock for general practice and also IDPA/3-gun. I’ve had nothing but excellent results with their pistol ammo.

Hornady will do custom stuff for people if there is demand.

Our highway patrol guys carry a custom 60gr load that Hornady makes, uses a bullet that they make but don’t sell, and in 5.56 pressure specs, which is a loading that they also don’t have available for sale.

I’d guess they may have made a run of bullets for USA. If this is the 62gr “barrier” bullet they makes it ain’t bad at all.

The KB’s were a fluke of pistol powder replaced with rifle.
USA replaced all rifles. Buy with confidence.

I have been shooting 40 and 308 and I have not had a problem. I just got some 223, havent run any yet but I will let you know if I have any problems.

I do have to say that after three phone calls and two e-mails that USA Ammo’s customer Service totally sucks as they make every promise under the sun to “Get the information” and to get back to you asap but I have yet to hear a single word from them since 9-3-11.

Why bother being jerked around? It’s a free country, give your money to someone who doesn’t suck.

I did have a e-mail exchange with an employee from USAammo and my questions to date were answered. He relayed that the company is in the mitts of expanding and hiring a lot of new employees and this was the reason for the lack of immediate information. I can believe that and will test a sample of the 62gr PSP in new Lake City Brass and some of their M855 and report the results at a later date.

I would like to know how they weed out M249 cases.
(or is all of their LC brass virgin?)
One of those little guys can lead to a drastic change of your gat’s feng shui if it gets restuffed and cranked-off.

BTW- I would NOT use PSP in an AR for high volume training. Well documented failures to feed due to lead smearing on the feed-ramps.

Supposed to be loaded on Virgin brass but I will re-verify that information. The Bullets are not the same as the older version in the posted picture and are manufactured by Federal and Hornady. During my latest e-mail exchange the bullet used in this loading is supposed to be “Bonded”. I plan on ordering some and posting a review asap.

Weed out M249 cases? Are they made of plastic or something?:help:

They’re just often bent in on the mouth unless you are aware of something I am not. Easily fixed during sizing or with a pair of pliers. Really it does not affect anything. I personally won’t buy M249 brass as I hate wasting time bending case mouths back out.

Also, only someone with more money than brains would use bonded PSP for high volume training. I think we all know that.

The stuff they’re using is most likely going to be Federal Fusions/Speer Gold Dots as there has been a lot of it on the market recently from overrun. It would be the least expensive route for a bonded psp. I’ve bought some of it myself from an ATK subcontractor.

Double checked and the L/C brass is Virgin and the bullets bonded.

M249s typically have very sloppy chambers. As a result, the brass is subjected to more stretching and stress during firing.

Squeezing that brass down back tight during reloading and then firing them again is a recipie for a case head separation.

I’ve had 5 case head separations with a 1K load of once fired brass that had SAW’ed cases mixed in. It’s thrown me off of buying once fired LC cases. I learned my lesson the hard way.

It wasn’t obvious in inspection of the brass before loading, there was no tell tale bright line to denote an incipient separation and you couldn’t feel a difference with the paperclip test.

Luckily for me, there was no damage to the rifle, but it was a pain that ruined a range day with a broken shell left in the chamber.
