Got mine out today & I’m so glad I got this optic for this platform. Had another shooting bud who’s a legit USMC 8541 SS check it out as well. At 1X we adjusted parallax which you have to do. No way around it. Pics were taken from his front door in living room to curb. We used truck as target for a reason. We knew the lines on the doors had to be fairly straight & would show curvature, distortion, compression etc. Once we adjusted parallax it was flawless.
Kinda funny story to this since he has shot it & we have spotted each other many times & work well as a team calling each other’s shots for a few years now. I told him some of the comments people on the internet were making regarding this optic. He didn’t believe me at first. I showed him some threads here & he laughed his ass off. His comment was: “that’s why I hate going on those internet sites, so many ass-clowns” why do you waste your time there… & a few more adjectives that wouldn’t be appropriate here. etc. Take it for whatever you want.
Yep tons of distortion, pincushion & fisheye, tons…
So unfortunately it’s a month later and I’m still without a scope. After telling me I should’ve had it within a week, Opticsplanet said that they were OOS till middle of May, meanwhile US Optics appears to be giving me the runaround after receiving my scope…
Has anybody else had poor service from USO?
Here’s my timeline of events with them:
-3/13: Contact USO with scope issues (including pics and diagrams).
-3/18: Receive RMA label for scope to ship it in.
-3/21: USO receives my scope.
-4/4: After two weeks of silence I politely ask if they have any information on my RMA as I’m curious what the cause for my issues were. USO’s CS agent replies she’ll put me in contact with somebody.
-4/15: After not hearing back from anybody at USO in a week’s time I called them this morning and spoke with the same CS agent I emailed previously. She said she’d have another person call or email me today about my RMA. It’s now past their office hours and nobody’s called or emailed.
I don’t mind waiting for things, but I’d at least like the courtesy of them following through with what they’ve committed to me. I’m losing faith that they’re going to solve my issue.
Ok, so I finally got my scope back the other day and while US Optics fixed some of it, it’s still pretty bad.
They fixed my issue where 1x looks less than 1x, however the curvature of the image itself is still unacceptable. After hearing how great their customer service was, I’m absolutely disappointed. They had my scope for over five weeks and it’s still not fixed… I had to be very persistent in calling them to reach the person who was working on my scope. When I finally got a hold of him, he said that he’d have to do a rebuild of the scope (telling me they hadn’t even taken it apart by week four).
Below are pics of how the image through the scope looks at 8x at a garage 100yds away. I included straight lines across features to show how badly the image is curved. I’ve also included pics of a cheap Leupold Mk4 knockoff I was given as a present 3.5yrs ago. It’s shocking how the $100 knock-off doesn’t have the same issues (both were set to 8x).
I can’t in good faith recommend US Optics’ products, or customer service to anybody here.
Well I’m happy to say I’ve finally shipped the scope off for return to Eurooptic (where I originally purchased it from).
I called US Optics the other day to request a return since I’ve lost too much customer trust in their products and service. The person I spoke with was Ashot, and he was actually very responsive and helpful. I didn’t get the feeling like he was trying to stonewall me like the others I had spoken to. Despite me asking if US Optics could do the return themselves (since I didn’t think it was fair for Eurooptic to have to deal with US Optics’ problems) he said that it was their policy that I would have to return the scope to the dealer I purchased it from.
Ashot also told me another interesting piece of information, but first a little backstory…
On 4/16 I finally managed to get a hold of a person named Arnold who I was told was handling my RMA case. It took me three calls that day to catch him (first call was in the morning and he wasn’t in yet, second call was after lunch but he was in a meeting, and I finally caught him on the third call just before they closed for the day). When I spoke to Arnold, he claimed that he had tried to call me on Monday, 4/14. I confirmed that he had the right phone number, and then looked through my phone’s logs to see if I had missed his call. I didn’t see any missed calls nor their number. Furthermore, if he had called, why didn’t he leave a message? Arnold and I discussed the issues of my scope and he said he’d have to do a complete rebuild of the unit. At the time I assumed Arnold was a technician at US Optics.
When I spoke with Ashot the other day, he initially said I would want to talk to Arnold again since he was handling my case. I told him that I was uncomfortable with that route since it had been really difficult to reach Arnold in the past. Ashot said that Arnold was a busy man, and that in fact he was the OWNER OF THE COMPANY. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe that the man at the top had built my scope himself and hadn’t done his due diligence in verifying the scope was built to specifications and validating that it worked at range. My assumption is that he looked through the scope at a wall or something within 25yds, because at that distance the image does look fine, however the issues I detailed were specifically at 50 and 100yds. If he had been thorough and walked outside to look at an object that far away, the flaws would’ve been very obvious and it would be apparent that the unit was unfit for return. I would be very wary about a company where the people at the top don’t check their work.
Anyways, I’m glad Eurooptic has been very helpful and understanding in accepting my return and I hope their return of the scope to US Optics goes smoothly.
Well this is disheartening. I really want a FFP 1-8 mil scope and USO has been a really stellar company in the past with a solid military optic following.
