Been going down the rabbit hole on the TTI Ballerina Glock 17 Gen 5 and figured I’d throw this out here to get some takes.
I get that it’s basically a full Taran Tactical build on a Glock 17 platform, tuned trigger, optics-ready, the whole “race gun meets duty gun” vibe. From what I’ve seen, it’s supposed to shoot ridiculously flat and fast, almost like a hybrid between a competition gun and a carry setup.
At the same time… the price tag is wild. I’ve seen people say it’s basically a $500 Glock with a few grand in upgrades, while others swear it’s on another level performance wise.
From what I’ve read and watched, the trigger is super light (~2 lbs), and the compensator + slide work really tame recoil, making it feel totally different from a stock Glock. Sounds awesome, but I’m wondering how much of that is hype vs real-world value.
So for those who’ve handled or shot one:
Does it actually feel that different from a well-built “Gucci Glock”?
Worth the money, or just paying for the TTI name and movie hype?
How practical is it outside of range/competition use?
Not looking to start a debate just trying to figure out if it’s genuinely worth considering or more of a collector / flex piece.
With the caveat that I’ve never shot one in place I’d say this concept is so far down the phioisophically repulsive boulevard, I can’t even wrap my head around it.
Not to target this perv’s gun specifically since there’s no shortage of people willing to pay over $5k for all kinds of ridiculous pistols…. but we’re talking about the “mighty” 9mm round. Are we seriously needed a comp and overbred gun to tame this gutless round?
For pure competition, whatever… I don’t participate or understand that realm at all. But when did America become so weak that we need a comp on the minimum basic caliber?
These types of guns are nothing unique to pistol shooting either. How many guys do I know that bought some Georgia Precision bolt gun that won’t do anything an off the rack Tikka or Bergara can?
This guy has obviously carved out a market and made a name for himself, but it’s truly not my thing at all.
I’m a Buy a Glock, put a dot on it, and practice shooting guy. To each his own, but on overbred glock makes no sense to me.
I don’t know how much more benefit you can get than adding a red dot and a Radian compensator. Like anything else, returns to dollar seem to diminish quickly after a certain point. Then again, I don’t have any compensated pistols yet.
To be fair, if it has the famous Glock reliability with factoryammo and you can get it on sale, it’s not too bad of a deal compared to high maintenance 2011s that cost 3k+, don’t come with an optic, and have $70 magazines that may have to be tuned. If you’re buying a Glock, you probably already have glock mags and can hit the range. A good enough Black Friday deal and it may be a better deal in reality than on paper.
I was curious enough to see what this looked like that I checked that internet-thingy. TTI lists the gun at $4,399.99.
I told my wife years ago that if I ever spent 2 or 3K on a pistol then she would be allowed to use it on me.
Seriously, there is a point of diminishing returns here. A 1,000-dollar pistol could be substantially better than a 500-dollar pistol - perhaps even twice as good. But will a 4,000-dollar pistol be four times better than a 1,000-dollar pistol? At some point you are paying substantially more for a minor improvement in performance.
Most people would probably be better off buying a $1,500 gun and putting money towards a case of ammo to practice with, and some actual classes. Then use some of the remainder to take the wife out to a nice dinner.
Mind you, there are exceptions made for true collector grade weapons. But that is outside the parameters of this conversation.
I predict they will sell some of these though to rich guys who like the “gee-whiz” factor of having a gun seen in the John Wick universe. Some people have more money than sense, but I myself do not fall into that category. The most I have ever dropped on a gun was 2,600 and that was for a rifle.
I’ve got a neighbor with a Truck that could climb Everest, so there are those exceptions, I’m not sure why all the exceptions live in my neighborhood though.
