Triple Tap losing its finish...

I just came from the range and while cleaning off my SR15 upper I noticed that the finish of the Triple Tap has come off on a few different parts (mostly on the face). Is this supposed to happen? I only have about 1100 rounds through it.

The finish on them is terrible, and one of mine has flaking on the face.

Just shoot it, it’ll all even out

Yes, the finish on mine has been flaking off since the first time I took it shooting, resulting in a very “distressed” look
I don’t mind one bit.

The areas that have been exposed longer will re-darken from shooting (not as dark as the crappy original black finish, but check out pics of the original Triple Taps that people darkened)

The finish is not parkerized because iconel is not a ferrous metal so the finish they use is not going to be the most durable in the world.
Still works great tho

Would IonBond adhere to Inconel? Their Diamondblack finish might be a solution.

what is the finish?

The next batch wil have a new coating. Durable and dark grey to black in color.

Okay, I think my SR15E3 is going to need one of these. When will the next batch with the new finish be available?

Thanks!

I thought that most shot them to be black? I picked up a black one, but I though the original shiny ones were the cats arse! Especially once they got some carbon on them. Now, if only my damn state would allow suppressors, I’d be in.

Last time something that was made from Inconel had surface coating issues I cared about as a result of heat and abuse… was before I was born, and said object coated in InconelX had been going Mach 6.7

My guess is solid film lubricant (nsn 9150-01-260-2534), which is what I applied to my in-the-white triple tap. I havent shot it yet to test durability, but having used this on aircraft parts in the past Ive got a feeling its not gonna be permanent.

500 rounds, still looking good…
