I’m getting into 3-Gun as we speak. This will be a new deal since I normally only shoot in rifle/pistol matches. So what’s the best way to store large numbers of 12ga shot shells and get them to and from the range? I normally use 30cal ammo cans for my .223 and 9mm ammo. But I wasn’t sure if there was a better way to go for the 12ga ammo? Is a 50cal ammo can the way to go or stick with the 30cal or something different.
I only recently purchased another shotgun, and imagine my surprise to discover I had a whole shitpot of 12 ga ammo left over from my last one. This ammo was all in 50 cal ammo cans and has been there for 10+ years, untouched for at least 6. Mix of buck, bird, and slug. I shot my first shotgun match this past weekend and toted my ammo to the range in a soft-sided bag meant for AR mags. I put the birdshot in a ziplock to keep it separate and the slugs in their boxes. Worked great.
That’s what I was hoping would happen. I had a little mind block on other options. That bag is pretty slick, but any heavy duty small duffle would work. Then if it had some smaller end pouches I could dump the slugs and buck in them. Thanks Rob…
I went to Walmart and picked up an inexpensive soft top/hard bottom tool bag. They’re usually not much more than $10. I have 3 bags to keep rifle stuff, pistol stuff, and shotgun stuff separate, easier for me to find what I need when I’m gearing up for a stage.
