Training with Rifle Plates

disclaimer
I have never handled a Troy Battle Axe Stock -
BUT: it looks to me like the surface that contacts your shoulder is curved for one, and you described it as a metal surface. Both of these items together sound like a bad combination for armor with hard plates - I am inclined to think that the “wings” that give such nice cheek weld also create a “gapper” effect because they dont narrow down at the back of the stock, pushing the entire stock further away from the plate and further out onto the shoulder. Similar stocks from Magpul seem to have the back end of curving back in to make a more narrow contact surface than the troy - which is why you might not hear users of similar looking stocks complaining about the same thing.

Having never handled that style stock however I may be totally off base.

I sold off the stock and the Banshee PC because they did not work for me.

I have a Tyr BPC now and it works well, I swapped a magpul CTR for the Troy and have not had any issues since.

Look at the back of these and it might show why the magpul design might be better suited for use with body armor than the troy design:

***** I see that Voodoo man has changed stocks - this information may be important to others when deciding on a stock system for use with plates*****

I will say that I liked the Troy stock a lot, if I did not wear plates I would definitely consider it since worst case you can just bludgeon people with it.

I don’t see that benefit when you have your barrel or FSP…not to mention that you should probably have a secondary or tertiary weapon with you anyway…just sayin.

All of that goes without saying, I was merely pointing it out.

Right, I guess I didn’t finish my thought…when you have all those other options to strike with or deploy, I just don’t see the benefit in using a stock that is that big and bulky when, truthfully, even if you didn’t have those other tools to strike with or deploy, you will still be using that stock 99.9% of the time as just an object to put in your shoulder to absorb recoil.

When it comes to using armor, stock design and stock placement becomes much more important. So, I would rather use something that functions better in the role it was intended for, since it will be used in that role 99.9% of the time. I suppose this is the conclusion that you came to as well.

Now, to add to this thread, I used to run the CTR and found that it was more than adequate in “fit and function” when running with plates. I recently switched over to an IMod, and even though it seems like its a bulkier stock, I personally feel that the design actually helps me “lock in” the stock with the side of the plate (along the shooters cut) and my cheekweld even better than the CTR was able to. It just feels more solid to me. Just something to think about if you happen to be looking for a stock solution to work with your plates.

I agree, again just making the point the troy is a good stock.

Believe me, VDM has secondary, tertiary, and upward to dodecatary covered .

shhhh opsec and all that

Lol, I’m sure he does
