trade mbus for matech?

I’ve got a magpul mbus rear sight that came with my rifle and I have an opportunity to trade for a matech buis. I know these are mil issued but have no experience with one. Was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on this. Thanks.

I trade in a heart beat.

Ok any reason why?

I just prefer the metal sights to plastic.

Solid locking metal rear sight with a clear sight picture and plenty of adjustment. Hands down go with the Matech. And if you want something really nice go with a kac rear sight.

I’d keep the MBUS.

For people who think magpul sights are not durable, this is an interesting read.

Interesting read on the drop test, thanks for that. How do you guys feel about the operation of these sights? I like the range adjustments on the matech but it only has a small aperture. Guess the magpul would be better for close range?

I shot competitions with a Matech from 2yds to 80yds and had no issue with the sight picture. Get your nose on the charging handle and you’ll be fine.

I would keep the MBUS.

I’d trade for the Matech. I’m a fan of old school adjustable sights.

Get the Matech. It’s a good sight, I prefer it much more than an MBUS.

…sent from my mind, using telepathy!

Added poll.

I own both, and I thought it was worth saying…

The Matech also allows for much better peripheral vision. The sight itself is very narrow, which is nice.

You probably know this, but the Matech is also adjustable for shooting to 600 yards.

The only thing I prefer about the MBUS is the option of a larger aperture (not that I’ve ever actually used it). Like the poster above said, if you are shooting in low light, get your eye close and it should be fine.

Leave the mbus for the 15/22 IMHO…

I’ve had 2 of the Magtec ones broke off, one the sight was mounted and in a soft case when I removed gun from case the rail interface part was broke off. and other ones disasemble in use. One I replaced the rail mount part with a after market part… one is in a junk box.
IMHO: use the one you got and replace if needed.

I’ve had both and while I don’t like either, and I’m somewhat averse to anything Magpul other than mags and followers, I voted to keep the Mbus.

The adjustable elevation on the Matech is useless and can get your sight knocked out of adjustment, the windage wheel is too big and gets on my nerves when charging the gun with two fingers, it sits too high off the receiver, the blade doesn’t lay down flat on the receiver, the mounting screw and rail piece are rather flimsy and easily overtightened, the little nub of metal that keeps the rear sight down will eventually wear and let the sight flip up on recoil.

It does offer a good sight picture and is easy to adjust the windage when zeroing.

The Mbus are rather ugly and I’d never own one, but I think they’re less annoying than the Matech.

Having said all that, what BUIS do you prefer?

While i like the idea of range adjustments on the matech the feedback about the reliability is disconcerting. That with the link about the drop test makes me lean towards the magpul but the poll is leaning towards the matech. Can anyone make an argument for the matech other than you just like it better? I.e. why?

Troy for flips, Daniel Defense for fixed.

DD fixed are great. I say go MBUS.
