i’ve seen a lot of hit and miss reviews on sig. basically boiling down to saying the ones made here are so so and the ones produced in germany are top notch.
i REALLY liked how this gun felt but if its not going to hold up like my m&p does for half the price then i dont even want to consider it.
i’ve read that ALL current P226’s are produced here and i’ve read that the Combat 220 & 226 are still produced in Germany using a lot higher quality metals/parts, that are better hand fitted etc etc. but i cant find any HARD evidence point that way.
does anyone on here have one or know more about them to verify any of this & or the actual quality of the Combat models?
Not all current SIG’s are crap, it’s just the chances of you getting one that is, is higher than it should be and higher than it was before around 2005 or so.
I had a SIG P226 Tactical that went through several classes and I never had any issues with it.
Would I buy another one? No.
I made a decision to concentrate on my Glock 17 and 19.
that is my current prediciment. trying to decide on that or just getting a TB for my m&p from stormlake. and sending it to bowie for a trigger upgrade and other little work
I have an old 226, circa 1987, and it runs like a proverbial Swiss watch. It is the best shooting 9mm I have ever shot, and the one gun which I will neither sell nor trade. You can get an older one for as little as $450. I have not shot any 226 made after 1995 so I cannot say what the differences might be.
My first gun was a SIG226. I loved it. But i realized that for what it is, there are much better options. HUGE, High Bore axis, heavy, spotty QC and expensive as hell. I HATE guns with safteys except 1911 and BHP, so I will not own another with one.
If you want another gun to play around with and a range toy then go for it. Keep in mine sigs are not cheap and they dont have amazing resale should you decide its not for you. I know everytime i pull the trigger on my glock it will go bang and its a no frills firearm. I am assuming the same could be said for the M&P. If you are already invested into an M&P I would look at some of their guns. Or even a CZ before I bought another Sig.
There have been a lot of credible reports about the durability of recent Sigs. As Templar said there is a lot of hit and miss with Sig right now.
If you haven’t shot a 226 yet, I would do that first. Trying to compare one to an M&P is difficult as they are very different guns. Like or dislike depends on the shooter. You have to decide whether it works better for you or not and the only way to do that is to shoot one. I’ve run Sigs before, both new and old and actually own a late 90s P226. They’re nice, but I prefer a Glock or a 1911. Both work better for me. Doesn’t mean that will be the case for you, but it is for me.
Try one first and see if you run it better than your M&P. If you do, only you can decided whether or not to buy one. If you don’t, I wouldn’t consider the change. Personally, if I were looking for a Sig, I would buy one of the older German guns. There are some out there that have been shot very little in the $700.00 price range.
havent shot one yet but i’m leaning more towards adding another M&P to my collection and just making some upgrades. i’ve had really good luck with them and after shooting a friends with a bowie trigger job its a whole new gun anyway. for the price of the model i wanted i could buy two m&p’s anyway… and that’s alot to spend for a gun that is hit or miss on quality control
Not a Combat, but I have a 226 Navy I picked up to replace my department issued 226 DAK and I’ve put thousands of rounds downrange and been through classes with it and haven’t had any problems at all. Like Templar said, it’s hit or miss it seems like with newer models. I also have a 239 that is much older than the 226, and I haven’t had any problems with it either.
i think i’ll just get a m&p FDE 9mm. i think if i do that i will sell my newest m&p .40 since i have two and barely shoot this one… hell its only been through a box and a half of WWB.
this way i get the 9mm i want and end the end only end up spending $150 or so after paperwork and tax. better than thats $950 saved towards my SBR i want to buy soon.
I am always in the market for a 226 or 228 marked Made in W. Germany. If it says Made in Exeter NY then I would pass. The US made Sigs are more problematic. You won’t know if yours is any good until well after you bought it. Just stick with German.
I’m actually not sure. I purchased it used with the APEX parts already in it.
Oh maybe they are the same. I couldn’t find it on the S&W site and then saw it at Cabela’s with “Exclusive” on it. This is what mine looks like and it did come with the range kit as well.
go with the Navy MK25 version and you should be fine.
I had an older P226 .40, I’d say probably from mid-late '90s and it was the best handgun I’ve ever owned. The most accurate and reliable I’ve ever shot, I used that gun for my carry for 5 years.
