I mean, it is just a donkey, but I cannot ignore the grief the poor owner must be feeling - she looks like a teen girl. Imagine dealing with this, and how it probably shattered her faith in the police.
You don’t want to mess with Someone’s Livestock. I’m pretty sure that’s going to be difficutl to explain in Court but really no excuse for shooting someone’s Donkey.
I do believe you can shoot someone in Texas for harassing your Livestock, so leave the Donkey’s alone.
The picture of the girl crying over her dead pet’s body was truly heartbreaking. Kind of odd really - as a historian I am used to hearing about horrific things - but this seems so senseless.
I’ll throw some bricks at the headline writer though for making a big deal out of the “no warrant” thing. I am just guessing that if you are looking for a lost child that negates getting a search warrant. But maybe a good idea to tell the property owner what is going on.
I wasn’t there, but on the surface, it looks like a cluster $^&!
My Sister had a Donkey named Burrita and she was a pretty cool little thing, you might not think so but most horses either ignored her or really looked out for her.
That’s a disgrace. If you were standing on the back porch and witnessed that I wouldn’t even press Charges for shooting that Big Dummy
Common sense has gone right out the window. If those officers felt threatened by that little donkey then they need to find another line of work. I hope Afroman gets ahold of this and tears those officers a new one. He needs to make those idiots famous. Or infamous.
Well, if you want to poke around my property after dark, just stop by and tell me., hell I will help.
But go out in my field and shoot my donkey?
As long as your property is properly marked Purple paint and all they’re stacking up the charges the whole time they are out there. Shooting the damned Donkey is just the icing on that Cake.
To address these concerns, House Bill 1379 has been proposed to limit warrantless entry by game wardens and Parks and Wildlife officers. The bill would require officers to obtain consent, probable cause, a warrant, or act in an emergency to enter private property. While it does not amend the Texas Constitution, it aims to curb some overreach and protect landowners’ rights texasscorecard.com. Similar measures in other states have used state constitutional language to reject the open fields doctrine entirely, offering stronger protections for private landowners
Practical Implications for Landowners
Landowners can refuse entry to their curtilage without a warrant.
Game wardens may enter open fields without a warrant but must follow legal procedures for enforcement.
Landowners should ask for identification and the reason for entry, and may seek legal counsel if rights are violated iere.org.
Placing cameras in open fields is generally permissible, but cameras within the curtilage may require a warrant iere.org.
In summary, while the open fields doctrine allows broad warrantless searches on private land in Texas, state law and proposed legislation like HB 1379 provide avenues to protect landowners’ rights, particularly within the curtilage or under state constitutional provisions
When sanity prevailed if ya killed a donkey ya replaced it. Of course today the dead donkey is a national news headline. The leftist retards have won. sigh…
I don’t think anyone is just virtue signaling more than pointing out incredibly bad decision making and shitty policing. I venture to say that young girl is going to have a dismal view of any police officer for a long time.
Too many people were murdered today. But usually they are murdered by criminals. In this case a law enforcement officer did something unjustified.
Even the SWAT cop JSB posted about the other day had some half-baked justification for shooting the guy with the sword - even though it looks like a bad shoot. But hard to convince me that there was any serious reason to shoot a baby donkey. It’s not like it was going to kick someone to death (which a full-grown donkey might attempt).
I have heard that - and the cow farm down the street keeps two donkeys in residence, which supports that idea. Can’t think of any other reason they would be there.
I’ve seen the results and here’s what I think happens.
We had a small operation so I knew every Calfs Momma and when you begin noticing those calves losing their tails stop and look around.
This is where knowing the feces of the species comes in handy, Find some Coyote Poop if it looks “Normal” disrgard (you might have bigger issues,) If the poop however is full of hair hair and black like tar go get your Donkeys and take them out with the Cattle early in the morning.
The Coyotes aren’t going to worry the cattle until the sun goes down and if they come in they will be stomped and kicked to death every damned time.
Here’s what I think happens the Coyotes don’t know the difference between Calves and Donkeys in the Dark and the Donkeys spook easier than cattle when they move because they are smaller and moving the Coyotes hone in on them. Calves can’t kick like a donkey can so there’s a hell of a surprise waiting for Mr Wylie Coyote.
I have seen coyotes that were stomped as flat as a darned rug, every bone was turned to dust and spit and the damned Donkeys were dragging the corpses around.
