Federal authorities on Monday morning raided the Washington, D.C., area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, as part of a criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork filled out by her father, Fox News reported, citing a person familiar with the situation.
The Department of Justice later confirmed the raid when asked about it by CNBC.
Omar, who was born in Somalia and brought to the United States as a child, has been a target of criticism by President Donald Trump. She became a U.S. citizen in 2000, at the age of 17.
Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, conducted the raid, Fox News reported.

âToday in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,â a DOJ spokesperson told the outlet.

An NBC News report said the raid was part of a multi-year probe involving âwhistleblowers, documents and witness testimony, deals partly with immigration and fraud, but goes beyond those things,â citing a source it did not name.
Earlier this month, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin foreshadowed that actions against Omar were coming.
âThere may be more to this â the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with. But all of this, weâre investigating,â he said in early September.e said he asked the contact what was in the files related to Omar.
He said the source, who he insisted does not lie to him, told him, âit is so much worse than you could possibly imagine.â

It is only when the documents are set side by side and compared for inconsistancies. Now when they are done with âHerâ documents they bring in her Husband, her Husband Brother and do the same thing.
