I can’t imagine the level of physical fitness it would require of a 42 year old Man to make it through the Basic Training I remember.
I was in my best physical shape when I was about 35, honestly I had racked up about 10 perfect APFT scores by that time. .The slide over the next 4 years after taking a desk job was not an easy one.
I can’t imagine waking up at 45 and trying to do0dge the Re-Uo NCO.
I did a bit of an experiment and the old three event PT Test required a balance of cardio and strength.
When I lifted every day, the cardio became an issue, when I Cardio heavy, I lose strength, so there was a fine balance there.
Also everybodies body is a bit different some folks are born lean and favor cardio, some people are born muscular and favor weight lifteing and strength, you have to adjust all that for peak performance.
I just know that those 42 year old Guys aren’t going to recover as fast or as efficently. You have to be pretty dedicated to staying in shape and in a shape that favors the Army PT Test to keep your head above water.
Like many things in life, “fitness” is a pyramid. The older you get, the less likelihood that your “fitness” is to a certain standard. Sure, there are 42yo guys out there who run 5 miles every day, but the % of them that can do it is much lower than the % of 20yo who can.
I would bet that a long ruck march at 42yo is doable by that smaller % of guys that age, but what about the next day? The ability to recover quickly and then perform again dwindles as you age, I don’t care how good of shape you’re in. Nobody beats Father Time, some people just fvck with him longer!
How many 42 year old grown men are going to tolerate getting yelled at by a 23 year old E5 for stupid shit like pubes on a toilet on Thursday night room inspection?
That was dumb enough to be infuriating when I was 19.
I have trouble understanding People who didn’t think Iran provoked this responce based on 47 years of promoting terroriiem in the Region, killing and taking Americnas hostage.
