The U.S. Army is raising the maximum enlistment age, allowing more adults to join for the first time in nearly a decade.

As of March 20, the Army increased the maximum enlistment age to 42, according to the Regular Army and Reserve Components Enlistment Program.

Previously, the cutoff age for enlistment in the Regular Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve was 35.

As someone who did this at 18 and stayed until he was 40, boy oh boy..

I reccomend watching this first, it approved by Edward G https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msRjTx1pfQg&t=3668s

I left for active duty the day after I turned 18.

I’m good. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I can’t imagine the level of physical fitness it would require of a 42 year old Man to make it through the Basic Training I remember.

I was in my best physical shape when I was about 35, honestly I had racked up about 10 perfect APFT scores by that time. .The slide over the next 4 years after taking a desk job was not an easy one.

I can’t imagine waking up at 45 and trying to do0dge the Re-Uo NCO.

This past Monday I benched the most I ever put up at the age of 43. You never know.

I don’t think strength would come into play as much as endurance stuff would.

Thought it already was 42. The Navy has been for years.

Understood. Just saying that there are some pretty fit 42yos out there. I may not be one, but they do exist.

I did a bit of an experiment and the old three event PT Test required a balance of cardio and strength.

When I lifted every day, the cardio became an issue, when I Cardio heavy, I lose strength, so there was a fine balance there.

Also everybodies body is a bit different some folks are born lean and favor cardio, some people are born muscular and favor weight lifteing and strength, you have to adjust all that for peak performance.

I just know that those 42 year old Guys aren’t going to recover as fast or as efficently. You have to be pretty dedicated to staying in shape and in a shape that favors the Army PT Test to keep your head above water.

Like many things in life, “fitness” is a pyramid. The older you get, the less likelihood that your “fitness” is to a certain standard. Sure, there are 42yo guys out there who run 5 miles every day, but the % of them that can do it is much lower than the % of 20yo who can.

I would bet that a long ruck march at 42yo is doable by that smaller % of guys that age, but what about the next day? The ability to recover quickly and then perform again dwindles as you age, I don’t care how good of shape you’re in. Nobody beats Father Time, some people just fvck with him longer!

How many 42 year old grown men are going to tolerate getting yelled at by a 23 year old E5 for stupid shit like pubes on a toilet on Thursday night room inspection?

That was dumb enough to be infuriating when I was 19.

I honestly think the head games wouldn’t bother you as much as it would an 18yo kid. The mind would be better at that age, the body not so much!

Boot camp sure.

Once you’re a 42 year old Pfc. living that barracks life though that kind of thing is going to get really old really fast.

LOL I can see a bunch of 18-20yo running around calling each other “Fag!” and getting falling-down drunk most nights!

Not a bad idea, or at least a start.

Lindsey Graham retired from thee Air Force Reserve as like a Colonel.

This guy wants him to experience more than legal offices and courtrooms.

“If elected, the first bill I introduce will draft Lindsey Graham into any conflict he publicly supports while in office”

I have trouble understanding People who didn’t think Iran provoked this responce based on 47 years of promoting terroriiem in the Region, killing and taking Americnas hostage.

I don’t disagree that they deserved it, I think the people you have trouble understanding are those who voted for no new wars and got on instead.

Why wouldn’t Graham, et al want to go hands on against Iranwith their own hands?

Graham also wants US involvement in Ukraine.

We are in year 6 of a Trump Presidency, I haven’t seen any warmongering.

We’ve been attacked by Terrorist many times and he has taken action against the Terrorist, not an entire Nation.

If we were removing rotten tissue to prevent gangrene would we remove just the outer layers or go in and remove the core of the rot?

This is the result of years of playing “Whackamole” with these Guys. we cut away all of the extrimities, now we go in deep and remove it all.

I dont even see this as war as much as a global Police Action that needs to be done.
